Are you feeling brave? Since you might select the safe path for your next electrical automobile and have a Tesla, Audi or BMW. Or maybe you could scare your business's fleet supervisor and set the neighbours talking by selecting this … the Number 8.

It's fair to state that the brand hasn't been a runaway success in the UK. Or anywhere, truly, except in the parking area of the embassy. The swank arm of Citroen sold less than 100 vehicles in October, which is, however you look at it, not many.

Could this cars and truck modification that? Well, the brand-new identifying technique becomes part of the strategy, with the 'Number 8' clearly implied to mirror some other high-end brand names – such as Chanel's perfume.

Anyhow, there are some other numbers that make the DS appearance seriously appealing. Like a variety of 469 miles, and a rate which we've been informed will undercut the normal German competitors and take on that other curveball option, the Polestar 4. Think around ₤ 60,000 ish.

That enormous range needs the greatest battery, which is borrowed from the Peugeot 5008 and is just under 100kWh. There is likewise a 74kWh pack which offers a 358 mile variety. That's actually competitive in terms of efficiency.

There are three motor options– 230 and 245 hp with front wheel drive or a 350 bhp twin motor. The cars and truck will add another 30bhp for short durations if you boot the throttle since you need to surpass.

That suggests 0-62 times of between 7.7 and 5.4 seconds. DS understand that's not Tesla-worrying but wished to prioritise effectiveness, and it ought to be quick enough for the majority of motorists.

To discover more, join Tom as he takes a first browse the new DS Number 8. Is it a revitalizing brand-new entry to the market, or it time that Stellantis called time on the DS brand? Let us know in the remarks.

    Makes new Jaguar look inspired…

The “new Jaguar” is never going to be a real car. It’s just a silly concept. This is being delivered to customers.

The Jag is inspired, it’s an incredible piece of design that will wow most people in the flesh. I advise everyone to watch more videos of it on YouTube because the stills don’t capture it properly.

I think this is a beautiful car. The only Electric luxury car I want. I hope a hybrid version will come eventually, but for an EV the range is pretty good, so I’d take one of these

      @Neojhun

No do not bother mixing it with a Hybrid version. Sharing a body and chassis with an ICE power train just compromises the efficiency of the EV. Hybrid should be on a different platform.

Marrying this behemoth to the 1.2 triple hybrid system put in other things would be a crime against humanity, or at least a very disagreeable idea.

Interesting interior…. Certainly “something different”…. I’m a big fan of Citroen and DS but I would worry about residual values, as Stellantis are famous for overpricing and then discounting. One of these at 3 years old, might be a bargain!

I was thinking exactly the same, I’ll be in the market for my next car in 2-3 years and I’m hoping these will be about 25k with about 20k miles. If it is then I think an all black one with that brown interior might be on my driveway

Stellantis inherited that quirk from FCA which really picked it up from the Yankistans of Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep’s business model

One really has to love this styling to choose it over, for example the Genesis G80 Electrified or Audi A6 e-tron. It’s definitely different.

It’s a big French luxury car! So, it will fail spectacularly. However I love it! It’s different and unique, all the things the unimaginative buying public will reject.

With an electric powertrain those worries are less present though. I’m not sure about the rest of the build quality.

Possibly but I would hope it’s a success. I’m definitely a fan of the design both of the exterior and interior. For the luxury end of the saloon market it ticks all the right boxes. Unfortunately it’s not an SUV which we seem fixated on. The French have made some beautiful compact concept cars recently. Let’s hope that with the success of the Renault 5 and the lessons (and cost savings) learnt we actually get to see them built

The interior looks like a nice place to be. No black or grey everywhere.

It’s all very well having heated seats and air scarves, but when the windscreen is misting up in cold weather, you have no choice but to put the fan & heater on!

It’s a fabulous looking thing – one of those cars that still looks a little like the concept it was based on – all the things that usually end up rounded out in the wind tunnel. It will be a great second hand buy in a year or two’s time.

  19. @jbmaru Avatar

An electric car in the DS range was long overdue, as the brand could have afforded to take that plunge with its more expensive offerings at least 5 years ago. It does look the part though, and the range sounds great!
What’s not changing with DS though is the lack of a stunning design that would live up to the brand name’s history.
They announced the range would go all-electric. If the brand could be Stellantis’s range optimised for electric motors, at least that would be something. Then the rest of the brands would benefit from those platforms with cheaper offerings, instead of being variations on compromise.

Personally I think this is one of the best looking cars in the target class. Too expensive for a regular working class mere mortal like me though. If I had the cash I’m still not sure I would shell out the cash though, residual values should be taken into account for any pass on purchase like a car unless you are prepared to and can afford to take the hit. A used example may well prove to be the ideal purchase. Many thanks for sharing. Tom.
