FIRST DRIVE: Polestar 4 – has the Tesla Model 3 met its match? | Electrifying

Read the evaluation:

We understand what you're thinking. This is the Polestar 4, so it's going to be even bigger than the Polestar 3 that we've already had an excellent nose around, right? Well, that's not the case here, due to the fact that Polestar names its vehicles chronologically and not according to size. So the vehicle after this will be the Polestar 5 and the one after that, the Polestar 6. It feels odd since we're used to the greatest cars and trucks having the biggest numbers, however Polestar wants to call its automobiles like Apple names its iPhones. The Polestar 4 likewise rests on a different platform to the bigger Polestar 3 and – according to Polestar CEO, Thomas Ingenlath – has actually been developed "from the ground up as a new type of coupé that celebrates rear resident comfort."

The Polestar 4's total length is 4,839 mm, width is 2,139 mm and height is 1,544 mm– that's longer, broader and lower than a Tesla Design Y. Obviously, the most controversial element of the Polestar 4 is that rear window, or rather the absence of it. For what it's worth, there is a standard full-length glass roofing which stretches beyond the rear residents' heads, and the rear-view mirror is replaced by a high-definition screen that reveals a feed from a roof-mounted rear video camera. This is declared to allow a far broader field of view than a lot of contemporary vehicles with standard rear-view mirrors.

The Polestar 4 gets a 100kWh lithium-ion battery, 94kWh of which is functional. That indicates that it'll be simply the 94kWh that you're charging and running the cars and truck on, and the remainder of those battery cells just relax in the background, assisting to keep the battery healthy for longer– something that every modern li-ion battery does.

The Polestar 4 will likewise be the fastest production cars and truck the brand has actually ever developed. The double motor Polestar 4 will get 534bhp and will have the ability to do 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds– and you'll have the ability to include an Efficiency Load that includes a sports chassis, larger Brembo brakes and larger wheels. Despite that performance, the official WLTP variety is expected to be 360 miles for the double motor, however the majority of buyers will most likely be happy with the 268bhp, single motor model with its WLTP range of 379 miles.

Discover Tom's decision on the new Polestar 4. Does it appear like a winner to you? Would you select one over a ? Let us know in the comments listed below.

You should compare the base model Polestar 4 to a Model 3 Performance. They’re the same price.

Can we please quit it with the tesla clickbait titles? It sours the experience of watching the video, so much so that I’m not going to. (And yes, I posted the exact same comment on the Fully Charged video where their title compared it to the Model Y. They have since edited the title.)

The title isn’t “Clickbait”, it is simply using Tesla as a reference point. As for you being so upset by the title that you are not going to watch the video, even though you clicked on it, you need to grow the hell up.

@@stevenjones916 Does the presenter of this video attempt to answer question _”has the Tesla Model 3 met its match?”_ If the presenter does this, then I will retract my post, make a full-throated apology and admit to being embarrassingly wrong.

If the video doesn’t contain this, the title is *objectively clickbait.*

Nice that he then compared it to BMW, Porsche and Mercedes definitely click bait!!!!!!

Polestar is really doing great job 4 looks so good, hoping that they update Polestar 2 with dedicated EV platform 😊❤❤

Surely, it’s not much of a comparison when the Polestar is 20 grand more expensive than the Model 3?

Model 3 is a smaller budget car, and this is a larger premium car. They are not comparable, two very different cars.

This is maybe why he didn’t even mention the M3 in the video, thankfully…

Then why use Model 3 in the clickbait title? Model 3 is also far from a budget car, starting at 50k + fees + taxes in Canada.

Well that was disorientating! I know you mentioned that “some” of the outside shots were in Spain but when youre talking about driving on “these roads in Oxfordshire” whilst we’re seeing the car on the wrong side of the road was really confusing.😅 Of course the contributory factor and most confusing thing of all was that it was so very sunny in Oxfordshire! 😂🤯
Good report other than that, as an ex bus driver the lack of rear windiw doesnt bother me. I leave our rvm at my wifes position in our Ioniq 38kWh premium, can’t see a thing out of it, just use the side mirrors and the camera for reversing. I can flip on the camera whilst driving if I need to see more.
    Cheers Tom👍

Camera rear view mirrors are totally useless for people who need glasses for reading, I wear Varifocals and use the mid range for reading the instruments that’s totally natural as you automatically look through the correct area of the lens, however with the camera rear view you have to physically move your head up bring that lens area into play, so not only do you have to refocus but now you have to move your head. So I wont be buying any car that totally relies on this.

    1. @TheophilusPWildbeest Avatar
      @TheophilusPWildbeest

Great point. I’ve got bi-focals where the bottom of the lens is focused for short distance (reading the instruments) and the upper part of the lens is for distance (seeing out), so again the only way I will be able to view that mirror is by tilting my head all the way back. Totally unacceptable. Polestar can scratch a large number of middle-aged potential buyers off their list.

Unlikely that someone will consider an EQC as a rival over the Polestar 4, Mercedes don’t offer it anymore! (Okay, you could get a second hand one…)

I’m disappointed that Polestar seemingly haven’t improved the ride quality over the P2. It’s the one improvement I needed to get me to change mine, but this doesn’t deliver by the sound of it. Ride comfort on my Honda e is miles ahead of that on my P2.

I’m not a fan of some of the choices car makers are making at the moment. For me, not having a back window would likely be a deal breaker. Same with the new Tesla Model 3, not having an indicator stalk is definitely a deal breaker for me. Otherwise, both cars would be on the list. 🤷‍♂️😕

Let’s put it plain and simple, Polestar tried to do something new, and they end up with something looks like the Genesis EV60, the price tag of a Porche but not as practical as any of its competitors. Oh, and they solved a few problems that never existed. Not all bad though, love the yellow seatbelts.

Wow. I’ve watched an-other review earlier and thought “what a nice car filled with nice features”. Waste of my time. What’s the point of doing a review and basically reading the promotional bumf from the manufacturer? This is refreshing to see. Thanks a lot for your sincerity and honesty in looking at the various good points about the car, but also pointing out its shortcomings. Great video. Thanks.
