My Dream Car Shoot Out – McLaren 600LT vs Porsche 991.2 GT3

If you ask me what the very best I have driven is then I'll say the or a Porsche 911 GT3. If I won the lotto that would be what I would purchase … concern is which one?!

Both of these cars are for sale at Antony James Cars for very similar cash. In this video I compare them with each other in a video game of Top Trumps before taking both for a drive and getting them unclean!

Great video and love the presentation and passion. Only comment is don’t think the weights you quoted for the gt3 are correct. 1,700 kg is it’s maximum permissible weight not kerb weight which is down just over 1,400kg. Quite a bit different! Still heavier than the mclaren but not 400kg different! Keep the videos coming!

I’m more bias towards the naturally aspirated engine, reliability and heritage factored into consideration then the GT3 its up my alley but this pure fantasy for me with building extension in the pipeline. Having said that my builder can afford it, on a more serious note both cars are fantastic choices. Thanks Pete.

Great video and two wonderful cars. I love the 911 and have some since a young child, so would have to be GT3. Personally I’m after a gen 2 997, but I must admit that I’m not fussed about the high end of the range. A carrera 2 or 4 s is where I’m looking.

4s is way raw than its given credit..I have a 996 4s n a 9974s..the 996 is actually an 05 so it’s one of the last ones and it has an x51 pack..I find myself driving the 996 way more..its really raw n I’ve never had an ims bearing issue nor have I ever worried bout it..

I had the joy to drive a GT2 and loved every second, so can only imagine the improvements in the GT3. Great video.

I honestly think I’d take the mclaren over the Porsche. I never thought I’d say that. Especially with how good value they are second hand

Great Video Pete. I’d prefer the 911 tbh. I was recently watching another YT from RPM Technique, who’d converted a 991 GT3 Winged version into a GT3 Touring with a PDK. This did away with cage and the rear wing. It was for a customer who wanted a GT3 Touring with rear seats, looked really good. I’d prefer a Duck-Tail instead of the wing on a 991.2 version. I think the conversion was about £12K and could be reversed too.

Great video as always buddy. Tough one! Like you, if I could have both, the Porsche would be a daily and the McLaren would be the track day toy!! If I could only have one, it would be the McLaren. Both are very nice cars though.

Excellent vid as always, thanks. Two very nice cars, but if I had my choice from there it would be the red Bentley in the corner.

Could you really daily a GT3? I’m sure you could but from a retaining value standpoint would you want too? I’d have both but twisting my arm, I’d pick the 600LT – that sound and those exhausts. I think I’d only take it out at night for the firework display in the rear view mirror 😂😂😂

Awesome. Both epic cars. Defo The GT3 for me but close. I was bought a GT experience at PEC Silverstone for my 50th and drove a 997 GT3RS, 991.2 GT3RS and a 991 GT2RS. My favourite was the GT3RS. Just incredible. The GT2 was bonkers, but didn’t sound the same. I want to go back this year with my Cayman and with an instructor. Incredible experience.

The correct answer is McLaren 600LT Spider.

It’s a track weapon but also offers a completely different type of enjoyment with the roof off. Every mile is epic and I’d disagree with your comment on rude quality as I find mine very comfortable once over 50 mph. Servicing costs are on par with a modern Porsche in my experience.

This is a difficult one. The GT3 is more driver focus than the 600LT i think but the 600LT looks much better.

Great watch as per usual Peter.

The GT3 would definitely be my choice. That flat 6 howl is just amazing.

One question did you ever do the video on the financing of a “sports/super car that you mentioned when you collected Lady P??

Given a choice, I’d have the Mclaren to be honest. I think it looks and sounds better, not that the Porsche isn’t a good looking and sounding car, they’ve not realy given me “the fizz…!”

I’m a Porsche nut and although I love the looks of the McLaren I just couldn’t stop looking over my shoulder at the Porsche……… Nope, it’s the GT3

I’d go for the Porsche but only because it seems to be the slightly more sensible car… However the McLaren looks and sounds awesome.

It’s the GT3 for me. The lineage of a 911 for one, more practical and you can’t beat a NA flat 6 on full chat.

Am I the only one that looked at how the Accost barn had been converted into a garage before looking at the cars! ☺. Whilst I’d love a McLaren it would have to be a 12c which is still IMO the best looking Mc as I’m not into carbon or aggression. Otherwise it’s Porsche all day long for me.

Fantastic video and editing ….. dream material for most of us! Now where’s that lottery ticket?? … if money were no object it would have to be the McClaren just for the overall head turning special theatre of the car. As you said it’s a car to drool over and look at in the garage and take out for those special days when the drives are something you relive in your head for a long time after 😊
