We take an early drive in VW's smallest next-generation EV to see how it feels on the road, how improved it is, and whether it has what it requires to become a real game-changer when it arrives later this year.

    Does the cassette tape get all mangled up during your favourite track too?

      No they have better tricks. When motor bearings wear out you are not repairing them. VW made it so you cant buy them yourself anywhere on purpose. Those are disposable cars.

      You can enable that function through an in-app-upgrade. It’s called ‘real 80s’ 🙂

      The cassette feature is amazing and being able to choose from previous classic dashboards is a touch of genius.

      Euro NCAP says if you want a 5 star safety rating, the car must have buttons for turn signals, hazard lights, windshield wipers, horn, and SOS. They also discourage haptic sliders that VW used, which would make them get points deducted.

    This, as well as the Renault 5, makes me think that maybe the European car industry will survive and even thrive again. Feels like VW actually wants to succeed again rather than just do the bare minimum to get by.

      Just wait for chinese manufacturers to start building in the eu (no tariffs) and sodium batteries to start being instaled in their cars (cheaper).

    2. @ataksnajpera Avatar
      @ataksnajpera

      @JoseFerreira-zb7wh Fun fact: Sodium batteries are more expensive than LFP, heavier and with lower energy density. NO THANKS!

    3. @dcampbell8805 Avatar
      @dcampbell8805

      @ataksnajperapotential consistant cold weather range and charging of sodium could be a winner. It is -15 C here my cupra born is DC fast charging at 30 KW instead of the summer 120KW. There maybe a balance that is worth it.

    4. @oktosite_ Avatar
      @oktosite_

      @ataksnajpera Sodium batteries are not meant for mobile applications like computers or cars.
      They are more durable and will come down in price significantly with time.
      They will likely shake up the sustainable energy industry, making more widespread storage of solar and wind power feasible.

    Back in the 80’s one of VW’s tag lines for the Polo was ‘the practical small car’, and it looks like they’ve really re-focused on that approach. If they can price it competitively i think it could do well.
