Mazda CX-6e first look: Is this Mazda’s EV turning point?

Mazda and electrical cars and trucks have not precisely had the smoothest start, but could the brand-new CX-6e be the minute whatever clicks into place?
In this video, Tom Ford takes you on a full walkaround of the Mazda CX-6e, the brand name's most convincing electrical automobile yet and a major step on from the lovable-but-hopeless MX-30. Constructed as part of a new joint endeavor, the CX-6e assures modern-day EV tech, competitive range and the kind of design style Mazda does better than nearly anyone else.
We'll take a close take a look at the outside styling, interior quality, innovation and functionality, and ask the huge questions: does this lastly feel like a proper, no-excuses electric Mazda? Is the CX-6e evidence that the brand is now taking EVs seriously, or is it still playing catch-up with established competitors?
If you have actually been waiting on a Mazda EV that really makes good sense, this could be the one.

I like almost everything on this car except the huge center display. How can one use that screen when driving alone???

What I think people miss here is the right side of the screen (or left side depending on where the driver is) is for the passenger. So during the demo you can see when driver uses “their” things it goes on half of the screen. But if you want to send like music to your passenger you can drag it with 2 fingers to that side.

It’s not actually like the driver need to move their finger to the actual right corner of the screen. It’s just mazdas solution of dual screens but instead doing a ultrawide.

I am disappointed. Mazda were innovative engineers. Their reluctance to apply that innovation to EV platforms means they are still playing catch up. A remodelled Chinese car is not good enough.

And again everything via big smartphone. Luckily some manufacturers start to wake up from that screen nightmare.

Actually, they’re just waiting for we old folks who can’t make peace with the screens to die off. Which will happen eventually. 😮

VW have just done that, introducing physical clicky buttons and more traditional interfaces on all their forthcoming cars. No doubt the touch screen generation will complain though.

I was liking it, until the digital side mirrors and widescreen.

You can have normal side mirrors

Very nice looking – classy. It will depend on price and efficiency/range/warranty

Very smart, apart from the big television bolted onto the dashboard

How many km till that front led bar will crack and also what a cool idea to add to one more car those idiotic door handles that will freeze shut in the winter 🙂

Generally, yes, nice looking car. That purple grew on me. I have settled on liking it. The 26in screen is a bit much. Maybe it’s the rectangle format versus a more curved look that some others door. You are right to question the light leak on that thing when driving at night. Testing that vehicle in different lighting situations will be important. This feels like another Tesla challenger with the minimal interface approach. That works for some and doesn’t work for others. I don’t mind manufacturers that go that way or ones that have both a model line that is minimal and one that is more button user friendly. Ultimately it’s up to me on where I spend my money. As long as it doesn’t have that stupid single front/back toggle window button it can find a home in someone’s garage.

I appreciate the Autumn leaf blower at the front, nicely traps leaves and debris then covers the windscreen with crap whilst starting out on the move in the season. Good design needs mentioning, as this doubles up as a windscreen salt coating system for that Winter days motorway spay, particularly from lorry tyres, which can now be more efficiently ducted and concentrated onto the windscreen where it’s needed most.

I do love Mazda designs, lovely looking vehicles inside and out. I guess when we see the test drive we will find out how practical it is.

I live in a hot weather country. A car with a black roof is a definite nono. My i3 has a silver wrap on the roof and bonnet – the black areas.

I agree mostly but clearly the TV was put on the dash with duck tape and not staples. Other than that you got it right.

Why no AWD option on a car this size – or are they saving that for later?
