I managed to break a Toyota! bZ4x Long Term Report | Electrifying

Toyota Report:

Tom is always suggesting Toyotas as he knows they are solid. However then he managed to break one …
He's running is the Vision four-wheel drive with a 71.4 kWh battery. When it's cold, the range show 170 miles, which is more than 100 miles less than the official range and 2.4 miles per kWh.

But unlike some so-called soft roaders, the bZ4X has some correct off roadway capability. It's no Land Cruiser, however if you require a bit more grip then it's far more qualified than you may expect.

That 4WD likewise suggests you get an additional motor which is likewise enjoyable when it isn't muddy. Unlike other cars and trucks (including the version of the bZ4X), Toyota hasn't made the AWD version more powerful– the two motors together produce just 215bhp. That's plenty in truth and good enough for a surprisingly quick 6.9 2nd 0-60 time, but a far cry from the 507bhp of
an AWD Tesla Model Y.

Tom likewise likes the strong feel of the interior and the way the Toyota drives, but he has discovered a few of the tech infuriating and the bZ4X has a practice of speaking to itself. The design of the interior is a bit weird too.

Have you ever handled to break a Toyota?

For Electric cars Toyota have been a bit slow to the market…!! Wow… so polite of an enormous understatement.

Such a well presented review. The Bz4x won’t be making my shortlist. Just think of all the cars you would have to turn down to pick this!

Apparently it only lets you rapid charge 3x in a day. So if you ever do go on a long road trip, prepare for slow mode charging.

After update is not 3x times, its 266% (164 kWh) in 24h. And that’s minimum 500 miles in cold on motorway in 24h. With UK motorway average speed around 50-55 mph (on lucky day), thats 10 hours of driving non-stop or 12h with charging. Could be exhausting…
Not even bother calculating summer with traffic-UK to small for this πŸ™‚

But at least you have the 1 million kilometers warranty to be happy about. πŸ˜‚. That must be the number 1 selling point when people try to sell it againπŸ˜‚

It’s worth noting you CAN PREHEAT the bZ4X. I have it set on the app to start at 8:30 every morning. I believe there’s 2 versions of the Toyota app available. The newest one is the one you’ll need to support that feature. It should be black with a Toyota badge as opposed to the red app that says MyT

With no rear wiper, just put on the rear demister πŸ‘ also works for rain/mist on your door mirrors too 😁 Well, it does on my BMW sedan πŸ˜‰

I’m not sure how Toyota, a massive company with huge resources, could have gotten their first BEV so wrong. Genuinely it’s almost like they did it deliberately!

Thats a very pleasant video. Cant say the same for BZ4X, I haven’t seen one completely positive review of this car. There was no need for an AWD system when the efficiency takes such a hit.

Having bought Toyota’s for myself and the wife over the last 15 years. I have never been so disappointed and ended up buying my first ev elsewhere. PS I broke my diesel Auris or it broke after 2 years suffering from catastrophic engine failure. That being said the engine was a BMW one.

Thanks Tom – I learned to drive in a Toyota and still remember fondly driving it on the country roads between my home town in Scotland and the town that had our nearest test centre. Been a bit frustrating waiting on the great Japanese brands like Honda and Toyota to come out with fully electric cars that are good to drive (thinking back to the CRX and Supra that were around when I was learning).

So are you recommending the new Taycan for Aunty Beryl ? πŸ˜›

Amazing miss to have no pre-heating. My ancient Lexus IS had a brilliant “snow” button, it worked well in the beast from the east. I’d love an electric version of my old Lexus. But not any time soon.

    A good review Tom.
The BZ4x and its Solterra twin have always felt like half-hearted efforts from Toyota.
It’s certainly not a car I’d recommend or put on my shortlist.
