The important things about and trucks is that while they are undoubtedly extremely fast, a lot of them can feel, well, a little emotionless to drive. However 's motorsport division thinks they have the response to this, and it's called the Ioniq 5N, an electrical car it believes will make the most dedicated petrolhead want to support the wheel.

The N version gets some actually delicious 21-inch wheels with fat, sticky tyres, 'N' badges and a surprisingly tasteful bodykit, including a wing and rear diffuser. According to , something that wears an 'N' badge has to have the go to match the show. And this automobile actually does, since it shares a few of its hardware with the Kia EV6 GT – which electrifying has currently driven. And did ridiculous things in.

However here it's got a bigger 84kWh battery, so the range ought to be up there. However better than that, there's up to 640bhp and simply under 550lb ft of torque – and if that means absolutely nothing to you, a 0-62mph time of around 3.4 seconds and 160+ mph top speed may impress. You'll be beating Lamborghinis off the line with that type of speed.

The Ioniq 5 also has some celebration tricks up its sleeve – the strangest being the N Active Sound system which is played through 10 various speakers – 8 on the inside and 2 on the exterior. 'Ignition' is expected to sound like a 2.0-litre turbo gas engine – total with pops-and-bangs, Advancement is an electronic sound inspired by a Gran Turismo idea car, the 2025 Vision, and Supersonic simulates an. er. fighter jet.

But we've seen noise-making and trucks in the past. What we have not had is the noise reacting to revs from a transmission. Since this electrical vehicle has a mode called N e-Shift in which you can change fake equipments via the paddles, and the noise rises and falls with it..
But the powertrain will likewise alter as you alter 'gear', and cut torque – it offers it a little shock – and supply synthesised engine braking, so it really feels like something mechanical is occurring. There's likewise a rev-counter and it'll hit a phony rev-limiter. It's an entirely made-up 8-speed double-clutch gearbox …

A rear wiper! Finally, Hyundai figures out that rain exists!

I might actually consider an Iconic 5 if they fit rear wiper.

It really doesn’t make any sense if it will only Be this N version that gets the rear wiper! You don’t need to look back when rallying/drifting or what ever! and it is the opposite of race weight reduction!

Wounder how people survived driving a van without rear window, before sensors and camera was a thing ?

    Great video and interesting car!
It’ll be interesting to see how Hyundai’s dealers deal with selling a £65k car. My local showroom is like visiting a 1970’s used car forecourt

I just want a rear wiper on the next Ioniq 5. It’s a simple request, especially living in an area that experiences Chinooks during the winter.

It’s… smokin’, Ginny! I’ve never been interested in the racetrack segment, but I do hope the other models of the Ioniq 5 will now get the N’s 84 kW battery and rear-window wiper.

A great overview Ginny. I have to admit I do rather like this car although its selectable loony sound modes do not exactly light my candle but it’s a bit of fun and that’s fine. Having that NGB button just has to be customisable for yourself, the N Ginny Buckley mode, AKA crackers mode. I look forward to you taking it out for a sedate drive…. no scratch that… a spot of NGB electric fun and real world grins. Thanks for sharing.

It’s funny, Ginny, that you said it’s a surprise that the hottest version of the Ioniq5 gets the rear wiper…
I’ve just finished watching the new MG4 X-Power beat an Audi E-tron GT in a drag race and the same comment was made by that reviewer – it also is the only MG4 model that currently gets a rear wiper…!
Perhaps that’s the new “go faster” mod in EV circles 🤣

All I wanted was a rear wiper. I can do without the rest of the bells and whistles…😮

I have the current Ioniq5 and I love this! The interior changes look pretty great too.

Yes, yes, yes as Meg Ryan would say……not a bloody SUV. The biggest and most important number will be the price if it’s silly priced that would be a shame £65k 😢 imagine that was £35k. I’d love to drive that around the highlands up here in Scotland. Be interesting when it gets driven and reviewed.

To the people say a fake gearbox- yeah the Car could batter round miles of twisty back roads with scenic views and you could sit back and enjoy. Or put it gearbox mode and you have to work for the performance.

Why cover it? Fully charged and Jonny Smith didn’t in their reviews. This is a different car to the classic Ioniq 5, I suspect many of these may end up in hedges or on the other side of the highway based on their performance specs and remember they did use the Nurburgring to help test/design it. You didn’t mention that you can turn off all those stupid noises they have designed as well as I noticed in another review who showed the screen when it was on there was an ‘Off’ button at the bottom so no sounds at all for those who prefer silence and just the road and tyre noise.

The rear is too busy, but overall it’s a killer design.
Interior was the main reason I disliked the regular Ionic 5, love the dark interior of the N.

I love that its got all that really inovative great new stuff in it and all us Brits are excited about is the rear wiper!😅😂🤣

Oh and can i just say how I know I’m seeing a proper car reviewer when they’re holding their notebook…one made of paper and board, i mean.😂 Proper reasearch needs paper and pen, i reckon, cheers Ginny.😄👍

Being a owner of the i30N, so not really a fan of EVs I thought this was going to be one of those typical Electrics but just the fact that it has a virtual gearbox and also you can emulate the engine sound of my i30N is the big reason why I really do want one. It absolutely looks beautiful.

I will buy the N version over the regular one for the rear wiper.

As a three-pedal hot hatch driver, this actually makes perfect sense to me. I have no qualms about the fake gearbox: I want the extra control surface and engine braking that manually shifting provides you — as to how they actually achieve that, I couldn’t give a Donald Duck. A big issue I’ve had with electric cars is the dull one-gear driving. _Theoretically_ this fixes that.

Hyundai pushing the envelope, trying new tech, and bringing innovation…gotta respect that.
