EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: Cadillac OPTIQ – Is Cadillac too cool for Europe? | Electrifying

#cadillacoptiq #cadillacelectric #electriccars

To most Brits, is a brand name that represents all that is big, brash and brilliant about America. It's right there in the list with hot dogs, baseball, Beyoncé, Hollywood, McDonalds, NASCAR and all of those fantastic American things. And yet, it's likewise a brand that few Brits feel particularly drawn to, nor that has historically worked well in the UK and European markets. However maybe, just perhaps, the brand-new, OPTIQ SUV can alter that …

That's definitely what is hoping, anyhow. And on paper, the OPTIQ looks great. It's a competitor for cars and trucks like the Jaguar I-Pace, Audi Q4 e-tron and BMW iX3, although at over 4.8 m long and 1.9 m large, it's in fact a bit larger than those alternatives and is more like the size of a BMW iX. And if that's just not huge enough for you, and you do desire a bigger that's the size of the iX, you'll probably want the Cadillac LYRIQ, which is likewise coming to Europe as part of the American brand name's new launch as an electric-only brand. Whether it's coming to the UK is a bit less particular in the meantime, as that includes engineering the cars for right-hand drive, but it appears likely that we'll ultimately see the Cadillac OPTIQ on sale in the UK by the end of 2025.

The Optiq sits on a customized version of the very same Ultium platform that underpins the Hummer EV and the Cadillac Lyriq, and it gets an 85kWh functional battery. At the minute it's approximated that it'll handle around 300 miles, despite having a dual-motor setup as standard. We 'd expect that'll improve quite a bit when it's checked under European test policies. If it does not, then the Cadillac is going to dissatisfy for performance, as great deals of alternative electrical vehicles handle a longer variety from a big battery like this.

Complete charging information haven't been confirmed, but the Ultium platform can supporting 800V fast charging– which is the super-fast charging that we have actually seen on the Kia EV6 and Porsche Taycan– and Cadillac says that the Optiq will have the ability to draw up 79 miles of variety in just 10 minutes. That recommends that the OPTIQ will get 800V charging tech and will have the ability to top-up at speeds of usefully over 200kW, which might make this one of the fastest-charging electric SUVs.

Sign up with Nicola as she takes a at the brand-new Cadillac OPTIQ. Could it make a huge distinction when it lands in the UK next year? Let us know in the remarks below.

I’d be nervous about a 1st gen RHD Cadillac, it’s not something they do a lot. Plus they’re new over here, they could well have the same parts/servicing issues as the new (here) Chinese makers.

Emptiness of the review suggests the PR department had a lot of say on the talking points/not a lot has been revealed yet.

Well GM have tried before with Cadillac and bounced off the UK market, barely registering on the triple lock of the German prestige brands. However, that was a few years ago and I do think attitudes have changed with EVs, as people seem more open to trying new (to the UK) brands. I quite like the Optiq, it’s handsome and the interior looks nice – it appears to offer something different in look and feel to the legacy EU brands. I wouldn’t be surprised if this did quite well.

Yup was going to say this (contrary to what is stated in the video) isn’t Cadi’s first go around in Europe, it was a rather miserable failure in the UK previously but as you’ve said attitudes have changed and their EV products look far better than their terrible combustion vehicles they were trying to peddle back in the 90’s

    Google is full of facts
Cadillac is among the first automotive brands in the world, fourth in the United States only to Autocar Company (1897) and fellow GM marques Oldsmobile (1897) and Buick (1899). It was named after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac (1658–1730), who founded Detroit, Michigan.

Fair enough, but for her to claim that is French and European heritage for the brand is silly 😂

She said he discovered Detroit, which means it was already there when he arrived.

Great video as usual. What’s with the weird colour scheme? The interior tan seats just look out of place.

When GM tried launching Cadillac in the UK they had the Vauxhall dealer network to fall back on for servicing when it didn’t work out. Wonder what the safety net for customers will be now that GM doesn’t own Vauxhall?
If Andretti Cadillac ever join F1 it will help with raising the brand profile, but until then I can’t see many going for one.

I think it will need some help. The brand reputation is low quality but comfy and big. Charging what they probably will for something described as “luxury” is going to lead to struggles.

The Electrifying channel is the only one I view when it comes to new EV’s. Thanks Nicola and team!!
Hope Cadillac makes a splash over on your side of the pond. 🙂

I am sick of the Germans over charging for their vehicles and then charging extra for things like a heated steering wheel. If the Americans sell the Caddy fully specced and at a reasonable price, I hope they succeed.

Good luck to GM with this Cadillac in Europe, because if our market is not missing something, it’s an EV SUV. These are available across the price range in a variety of shapes and luxury levels. And more and more to come in the near future.

Haven’t seen any that look nice and feels premium. GM/CHEVY/CADI ARE IN MY OPINION BEST ELECTRIC CARS, SUPER CRUISE IS AMAZING. PORSCHE/ AUDI 2ND PLACE THAT MACAN IS SICK, SUPER NICE, DRIVES REALLY GOOD. FOR 3RD MB AND BMW THEY ARE NICE BUT UGLY. REST OF ELECTRIC CARS ARE NON EXISTING WONT EVEN LOOK OR TAKE even if they were free

@@noelpolanco5338 If you like the brand and want this brand, that’s your choice, but for others, important are the numbers that they don’t publish yet. At one end of the price spectrum you’ll find the Renault Scenic E-Tech, Nissan Ariya and Peugeot E-5008, while in the middle you can find the Kia EV9, Audi Q6 e-tron , Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, Volvo EX90, Porsche Macan and Polestar 3, and at the top of the offer there is the Lotus Eletre, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Maserati Grecale Folgore and BMW iX. All of them have at least an 80kWh battery, but if you are happy with a +70kWh battery, the number of offers doubles. P.S.: your caps lock is broken

Cadillac lady doesn’t know that Lotus is a thing. Also doesn’t know about French style. Cadillac lady did the very American thing of talking about having French lineage because they stole a name from a Frenchman.

If they have tightened up the handing, we should expect a hard ride. Ideal for Britain’s potholes When Caddilac tried before, when they had the GM Europe network to use. It is going to be a lot harder this time.

We own a Cadillac Lyriq that we use in our Turo car rental business. It’s a fantastic vehicle, and I think the Optiq will follow in its footsteps.
