    The way I look at it, it shouldn’t be difficult to copy the Autotrader model without the astronomical costs behind it.

    Pull down menus – make, model, age, blah blah.

    Must upload photos as a requirement. Max of 20 at 5mb each =100mb.

    Is it just me but all it is some bits of info. 100mb of photo storage. Surely it shouldn’t cost no more than £5 a week for this privilege? Whether your a private seller or buisness seller. If you are a business and you are selling more than 10 cars, 50 cars, 100 cars you should have more and more discount.

    I find it madness the amount of money there garages are paying to advertise a 100 word advert and a few photos.

    Car dealers not my favourite place at the moment.
    Son bought an approved used car through a national network dealer 9 days ago and despite all the guff about “150 point checks”, “road test shakedown” the car has suffered 3 niggles, minor ones granted, but theses are the sort of niggles that should have been noticed and sorted pre-delivery. Add to that the inconvenience of arranging for them to be fixed and constant chasing the dealer has tarnished the buying experience for my son.
    Probably not the place to vent but felt I had to share our recent experience.

    Autotrader is definitely my go to but I also look at others too . I am not a dealer

    The halo idea is great – the more cars on there with a halo means people will start to see why THIS could be the go to.

    I don’t mind the “good price” etc of Autotrader as I ignore it

    One feature Autotrader doesn’t have that would be good is an ability to discount a car if it isn’t what you are looking for. By that I mean if you are looking for a blue Audi S3’s for example there may be a particular car that you don’t want , so a means of removing it from your filters would be ideal.

    Like you, pretty much all my 13 cars have been from the trader. It does seem to have tried to get too clever for itself recently and it’s just not as much fun to window shop on any more.

    I have noticed some dealers seem to have trader as their only way to showcase their stock so while a front page might look like the dealer, the search results are usually direct links back to the trader.

    If for no other reason, there does need to be some competition in this area as trader dos seem to also just be an outlet for cinch or other massive supermarket type dealers.

    Just tried the new site. Put in say Volvo, then diesel, it just says no it must be a specific model. That needs changing. It needs a broader search option.

    Wish him the best of luck as search alternatives always help to improve the buying/selling experience.

    The issue as always always comes down to user convenience. Similar like Netflix people will gravitate to something that has most if not the best stuff in one place. Key is to improve upon what exists already.

    Just tried it on my phone and simply could not work out how to search for a specific car!

    So utterly useless to me. Why would you not have all the make, model, keyword search there straight away from the landing page?

    The power of the filter is THE fundamental point of the site

    I Hope it all works out for them. Early days. I gave it a try. No option to search for the nearest distance. Clicked on the sort function but nothing happened. But there is certainly a need for a competitor . Just copy what they do and improve it.
