I was looking forward to driving the brand-new VW Tayron. I wished to spend a long time with the 7 seat version. A huge car on the outdoors however I am unsure it is a true 7 seater. The 1.5 L fuel engine carried out much better than I anticipated however.

Christ this is so arse-clenchingly dull isn’t it. If VW wonder why they’re in trouble, cars like this are why.

I asked earlier “this vs. the EV9?” And the further into the video, the clearer the answer becomes. This thing is slower, so much louder, has way less interior space, looks ditchwater dull and just can’t compete for packaging or refinement.

If you have a driveway, you’d be mad to get his over Kia’s 7 seat EV.

EV9 is a great car. The advantage this has is its price and the fact it drinks Dinojuice 😜

@@PetrolPedwell upfront cost will be a little less on a monthly but you and I both know that it’ll be more than made up for in cheaper charging on a home EV overnight tariff. And you’d get a better car for it 😊

Have a Kodiaq Sportline which is basically the same car. 100% agree re: sunroof especially with black rooflining. Weirdly it’s £400 cheaper to option the exact same sunroof in the VW than Skoda (£1760) . Even Audi charge less for their sunroof than Skoda these days.

These were never meant to be 7 full seats. I regularly take 6 people on runs of around an hour. Pull the middle row a little further forward, drop the centre 20 section and those in the rearmost seats gain some knee room – also less claustrophobic for them. But if you have a two 6ft 2 people sitting behind each other then what car will fit seven of this size? And if you can name one, how much luggage room is there? As I say, I’ve taken five running club members to races, and we still fit all our gear in the boot. I don’t get the complaint about room – the Tayron and Kodiaq are without rival as far as I can see. I’ve been looking for a replacement for sometime and to be honest, I can’t find anything as practical in this price range and size. On the odd occasion I have had all the passenger seats filled, but as you say, only for very short distances. It’s the person in the 2nd row middle seat that has issues as it’s not a wide car plus they have the transmission tunnel to cope with. Same applies for 5 seat version tho.

It has another trick tho which you may appreciate as a cyclist. Remove the boot floor and you’ll see space underneath for storage of the luggage cover. Shape a piece of wood so that it’s held securely in the luggage cover bay, fix a front fork mounting bracket to it, and lower the middle ’20’ seat. I can fit my electric mountain bike upright in the car and still have masses of bootroom for camping equipment. We can even take passengers in the rear seats. So whenever we reach our destination, I’m happy that the bike is locked securely in the car. Believe me, there are very few cars on the market, many of which are much bigger, that can accommodate a mountain bike upright inside the car. Perhaps not designed for that purpose, but I think these cars are incredibly spacious and practical.

I almost bought the new Tiguan as a default option, but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy something so dull. Bought a Peugeot 408 instead, it’s quirky but it’s interesting, and not many about. But yes, generally agree with your sentiment.

7 seats and a 1.5ltr engine!! Exactly why I purchased an EV. Modern petrol cars are boring , puny and gutless.

T-roc, t-cross, taigo, Tiguan, tayron, Tuareg, +6 EV + Golf (what else have i missed?) VWs model range is quite a big range, and confusing No wonder they don’t make any money.
And 7 different Engine options, I wonder if there are any wet belts fitted?

That 1.5 litre engine is actually a bit of a honey. It is incredibly good and delivers fabulous economy. The Tayron looks very large so I would prefer the Tiguan to be fair. Great review!

If the 3rd row of seats were removable, to me that would make more sense.
Have the advantage of the bigger boot space when you needed it (99% of the time for most people I’m sure) and on those rare occasions dig them out of the garage and fit them in place!
I know it’s not a fair comparison, but I drive a LWB Vivaro, with a 1.6 turbo diesel, and I’m currently getting 43.7 mpg, so always expect something less brick like and hopefully lighter to do better 🤷🏼‍♂️

Good video Pete. However not sure if I agree with you about the performance/mpg. You said that 40mpg is good and the power is not too bad. I’ve owned a gen5 rav4 hybrid and now I own a rav4 phev. The hybrid rav4 was getting 48 to 52 mpg with 219hp. 0 to 62 was 8.2 seconds. The phev with 302hp is something else. Plus awd is an advantage. Many other vehicles can better this. Maybe if vw provided a 10 year warranty like Toyota the maybe a go but for me a no.
