VW T-Roc R-Line – Is this the best Small SUV on sale ?

I wasn't sure what to make from the VW T-Roc when it arrived however a week of driving it taught me everything I needed to know. Is it any excellent though?!

I’ve got a Tiguan R line, couldn’t pull the skin of a rice pudding but it’s a lovely thing inside.

I had one of these on hire for a couple of days recently and I found it to be perfectly adequate to be honest, but then I’m not an automotive review expert.. And it was in the same colour scheme.

Also noticed you filmed this on my birthday.. just saying, lol!!

I have the 1.5T 6spd in an Octavia and regularly get over 50mpg.
I would have my dealer remove the hideous R badges on the front and especially the doors.

I bet you can get an Octavia with the same engine and transmission as this T-Roc for less than £40K too…

Good Review Ped 👏🏽 I’ve had that ADAS problem with both the VW Golf R 8.5 and Gti Clubsport 8.5 going around a roundabouts, manoeuvering or reversing it will flash the collision warning and slam the brakes even when no one was around which was frightening and dangerous. It’s something VW needs to look into this because I’m currently driving a 2026 Skoda Octavia VRS and I have not had this problem at all in the last 5 months of ownership. Also the pricing of that car is outrageous my Skoda Octavia VRS was £39k and it’s a much better package. For £42k your near Golf R & Gti Clubsport prices.

9:45 are those slider controls at bottom of screen lit up when dark?

    Good fair review.
Not a bad car, but there’s an awful lot of choice new and used at that price point and below.
Profile looks good, front is ok but the rear reminds me of an old Seat. 🤷🏽

I’m looking forward to seeing how the new T-roc and Golf hybrid are, due to be available for order anytime soon.

Fantastic looking car, but it really needs the 265 ps ea888 2.0 Tsi and four motion for me🤔

I think they should have just had the R badge on the doors. The one on the front bumper sticks out and looks a bit odd. The yellow suits it in R spec. I have a Clio RS Line in orange, so i like bright colours on cars lol.

    Good review thanks
If it’s like my old golf you can turn the sensitivity of the ADAS system down

T Roc would be interesting at £30K, not more. It’s a pumped up Golf of course. The 1.5 litre engine is a honey and widely used but asked to drive fat heavy cars so is not always seen in its best light.

Great review as always PP. Not a bad car overall although the price is pretty punchy.
43 missed calls on my phone would have me twitching a bit though 😂

Completely agree re R line badging. According to my dealership the only difference between R line and genuine R is the colour of the badge.

I was always looking forward to try e new troc, but the VW way of putting the screen like it’s glued in as an afterthought is still there . And no gas struts for the bonnet!

    What a shame .

Thanks for the review though !

Also agree re emergency brakes. My Golf R slams on the breaks reversing out of our driveway if it detects a mouse within about 100 metres

I have the R Line 25 plate Tiguan, this is just a smaller version, with just space lost? Will most likely swap to this in 28… even better if the proper “R” drops. Even better would be a 2 door coupe type thing…. anyone still make those? 😔

We’ve got a ’26 golf with the same overly sensitive safety systems. You never get used to it slamming the brakes on.
