This Squire Editions Defender is ALMOST Perfect ! | Part 1

I have actually always liked the Land Rover Protector. They certainly aren't the very best cars and trucks to drive however there is something about them that is simply cool. In this video I visit Squire Editions in Chichester to check drive their most current development before it has 3 upgrades that will maybe thurn it into the ideal Defender.

To take a classic car & make it better than the original is a gift. I grew up loving the original but never drove one until I had the thrill of driving a Series 2 on some private land. I do love the new shape Defender & have driven three different versions including 1500 ft up a Scottish hillside in fresh snow. They are the first car in my lottery winning dream garage shopping list.

Had a few but the 2024 D350 β€œ90” on the drive is a peach πŸ˜‚ Bit quicker than the 1949 in the family fleet since 1975 πŸ˜…

Oh yes, Defender rules (at least the style and design). Imagine showing the car to your friends and asking them: ‘Oh, did you see the Petrol Ped video on my car?’

Some serious work gone in to that! We got our TD5 90 a few years ago as it was my wife’s dream car ….. I hated the bloody thing when we first got it. But : after doing various repairs (LandRover things πŸ™„) and then mods, I slowly found myself getting converted to the point of acceptance. Then took out for a green laning trip and got hooked – since then, have tarted it up and it has been used for a TV advert last year as well as leant to someone for a wedding car. And now ….. well, it’s a bit too nice to send down the scratchy lanes on Laning trips so I have sold my 370Z Nismo and bought a freelander 2, tricked up for laning and off-roading – so a complete change of scene and a new found way to enjoy motoring.

In life part one I drove various iterations of these khaki abominations. Still, they would go anywhere and we were young enough not to worry about sitting on 20 gallons of petrol in the para drop versions. Had 15 people in one of those on the way to breakfast once. Steering was a bit light.

Didn’t they buy almost 100 before LR stopped production to use for these builds?

I’m not particularly a fan of the old Defender, iconic though it certainly is, but oh my, that Squire ‘restomod’ had me drooling. Everything is quality about it.
I’ve wonder whether a ‘problem’ for Ineos is simply that there are enough Defender fans who’ll just keep on buying and refurbing them like this (with big budgets too) rather than buy a Grenadier? I know what I would choose…
