Saying goodbye to the Audi R8 V10 RWD – The Ultimate Real-world Test | 4K

I spent a week saying goodbye to the Audi RWD Edition. It's unfortunate that this year we will see completion of production of the so I wished to invest a week with the automobile and see if it actually is a supercar you can cope with every day.

The V10 Efficiency has 570 PS from it's naturally aspirated 5.2 litre V10. It will do the 0-60 sprint in 3.7 seconds and it will strike 204mph.

Evening Pete, sounds like you enjoyed the weeks ride a little too much. I’m not the biggest of Audi fans. Unfortunately had a couple of A4 Diesels V6 models with bad experiences. Had a few BMW’s and the only issues after 5 of them was a damaged Turbo on the 330D, but BMW did me a 50/50 deal, unlike Audi. Enjoy the weekend/ holiday on the slopes.

Great real world review mate, sounds phenomenal, lottery win stuff! Only other V10 I can think of that sounds better is the LFA.

@GRfourfun LFA versus CGT is debatable but both blow the doors off the R8

@Flat Six I definitely agree with that!

I found this video very interesting, especially the technical information, so a big thank you for the video. It enabled me to compare the Audi with my car. My car has same 0-60 time, my car’s top speed is about 10MPH slower, I have 4 WD which I think is better than RWD, mine has CC brakes which I like, I have considerably more luggage space, my fuel consumption over last 1000 miles 23.5MPG (current mileage 87,000 miles), my car’s value today is about £30,000, I have just put in a new communication system which I think matches that in the Audi but has a touch screen. You did not cover road tax or insurance but I bet mine would be considerably less (tax £660 insurance £215). Ok my car is 17 years old. Conclusion, although the Audi is a fabulous car and although I am biased, I think I will stick with mine.

a beautiful car in a fantastic colour combination. the seats being uncomfortable would be a real negative if i could actually afford to buy and run one! the lack of a touch screen would be a massive plus though, much prefer buttons. enjoyed the vid ped.

Feels like in recent times we have reached the pinnacle of motoring, only for that achievement to be snuffed out by the approaching EV armageddon.
I’m just hoping that alternative fuels will save cars like this beautiful R8, a car that I could never afford but I’m so thrilled it exists.

Great review! Astonishing car the R8, one of the last of a dying breed. We’ve been lucky to experience a golden age of motoring in that sense.

A Huracan in a business suit, an amazing engine in a very understated body which I think helps in its suitability for ‘daily’ use. Great to see a ‘live with’ test rather than a ”Wow look how fast this goes” review.

Great way to review the R8 Ped. You know, if you keep giving the car the beans, you are not gonna get the economy. I remember Shmee once saying that he got close to 30 mpg out of his G63, whilst every reviewer has always said the G63 was a middle to high teens car if you drove it well. The secret, drive like a saint! I manage 5-10mpg more than I’m supposed to be able to get with my car. Would love to try that with the R8, hehe.

    Hi Ped
Fitting tribute to the R8. As you know I am also a big Audi fan, and have always had a soft spot for the R8 range, especially the V8. Never been in the position to consider buying new, but the V8 was in contention a few years ago when I was looking at possible used car examples. With some regret chose the 911 Carrera 4 S Cabrio, which in my humble opinion a better and more practical touring car. Never regretted buying that car, guess it’s horses for courses. 😎

Great review thanks 👏🏻 So good to get the ‘daily’ perspective. In reality I have a bit of a problem with the R8. It is perceived as a ‘daily’ supercar and a car that you could tour in. In reality its a bit too heavy and, if like other Audi’s, numb to use as an out and out performance / sports car. The interior space and MPG means touring is not it’s forte, so what is? It’s stuck in between a supercar and touring car but actually is not great at either? I may be wrong and if anyone actually reads this they may have actual experience. But of the 2 Audi’s I have owned, both fast versions, neither have been fun or interesting. I took both of mine touring and the RS4 was only memorable as it was somehow useless in the snow (despite 4wd) and we almost ground to a halt in Northern France and the S5 was so forgettable even my wife could not remember we went to the Swiss Alps in it, and when we got there even I could not be bothered to drive the passes. For me Porsche and McLaren have daily driving and touring taken care of and are engaging and exciting to drive. I have had 4 Boxster’s and 911’s and they can all be driven daily and do over 30mpg, car tour for a month with space and comfort and are fast and engaging. Likewise McLaren’s, loads of space, stupid fast, engaging and 35+ mpg. Just my thoughts….

With this one being RWD it changes the dynamic of the car a lot 👍

Good to see a car like this do the day to day stuff and with your wife driving. It really does tick all the boxes in a unassuming way. Future classic for sure and one you can drive.
