Porsche 718 Spyder – Why I chose PDK over a Manual ! – FIRST DRIVE

I have owned my automobile for just over a week and could not be more delighted with it. I do have some questions to address though …

Why did I choose a PDK and not a manual? Why did I not buy a 911? Are the seat comfortable? Isn't the roofing a faf?

In this video join me for my first drive and get all the responses!

I had the pleasure of proving the drone footage in this video for Pete this week. I’ve honestly never seen anyone so excited about a new car and what a journey to get it! Huge congratulations again mate and so well deserved. Everyone needs to see this car in the flesh as it’s simply stunning! 🎉🎉

Hey Ped. Watched it all now. Get everything. And, it’s your car. Not 911. Not Boxster 4 GTS. Not manual. Get it all.
I’ve driven manual cars for 40y and for the first time, got a pdk. They are brilliant. Also got a manual toy.
Still bet you’ll have to scratch the 911 itch. I have. Really good. Heart in heart, I think the Cayman is better. But, it’s that 911 itch.

I drove both and bought the manual. So much fun, and the downshifts with autoblip are amazing.

Whilst I’m sure the auto blib is great, if you don’t know how to do them yourself, take your time to do them slowly, blip in the neutral stage…,, my Dad was a lorry driver when there were no synchromesh gearboxes, so 4 – 3, for example required the blip for a smooth change, release the clutch in the neutral phase. I had to learn it as a learner driver. I guarantee once you master it, you will turn the autoblip off and every downshift will be smooth and you will become more connected with your car. I went on to become a Police Advanced instructor and taught everyone this method. Cheers

Agreed, but I strongly suggest you learn to rev match yourself, as it’s 10mm more rewarding 😊
Once you’ve done that, you can practice overlapping braking and rev-matching (heal & toe)
I promise you’ll never own a better car to learn in ❤
      Happy motoring 👍🏻

Keep it black. Gold is crass. Understated is always cooler.

In case you didn’t know, you can actually start and end the roof process using the key fob, you don’t need to crawl inside like that every time…

Instead of gold wheels, I would love bronze. A bit more understated and wouldn’t undermine the monochromatic theme of the car.

I’ve tried to like 911, driven a few, they never ‘clicked’ with me, a mid engined 718 makes much more engineering sense, and by damn that one of yours looks great, love the early seat mod…spot on!!

I own a 718 GTS Boxster – and definitely not better than my 992.1 Targa 4- the car is fun to drive but small inside – and the screen and electronics are painfully dated. Mine – 2022- still has a slot for a CD for God’s sake. Main reason anyone buys a 718 even the sportster or GTS is because it is less expensive than buying a 911.

Kind of a boring color combination- shark blue and chalk interior is a lot more fun.

Congratulations! Love seeing new content on the Spyder. I took a different route than you. I used to own a 981 Cayman S PDK and bought a 981 Spyder manual. I really loved the Cayman however thoug, I was missing something. The manual gearbox has made such a big difference.

I’m not a Porsche guy but they nailed it with the 718 Spyder, perfect looks, size, power and soundtrack. Love the thumbnail, literally the angle I commented about in the collection vid, perfect.
Although I hate black wheels as the wheel design gets lost, on this car with it’s badging and lights, it suits. You’d have to see what lighter wheels look like on a screen to make sure you don’t unbalance it,

in my opinion satin black wheels go very well with chalk or the current matt finish… I would not go for “gold” or at least not for the standard colours. Potentially “white gold” would look quite good too… FYI – I am going from Cup 2 tyres to 4S next year on my 718 Spyder (or hope for Michelin 5S at some point in the future – it is overdue). Bringing Cup2s to temp is depending on the weather or region you are living in very tricky… and the roof was for me never a problem. You can pop the trunk open with the keys or close the roof from outside the car… (double click and keep it pressed)

Great bath tub watch. PDK all the way for me, it’s a lot of fun in the 718. Can you imagine the joy of specking one from new. Like you say great residuals.
