Absolutely 100% with you on the “not trusting it ever again” discussion. I’m a great believer of “Everything happens for a reason” and obviously this car was not meant to be sitting in your garage. Can’t wait to see what you replace it with over the coming months but I’m sure the right car will find you rather than the other way round! Chin up 👍

Would never buy a turbocharged car. All that heat is the enemy of an engine

The reason I went for a last of the NA 991.1 rather than these fancy new snail powered ones… plus the sound .. you know you want to !!!

That is so pleasing to hear that a dealer has gone out of their way to help and has even given you the opportunity to hand it back. This is how it should be. That Porche dealer will be on my list of potential places to buy a car. You have restored my faith.

I instantly black list any company that make it complicated or try to absolve themselves of any responsibility.

Kaaimans is a very very high end dealer. Their reputation is everything to them. And of course, Ped being a YouTuber could do their reputation much more damage than otherwise — although they’d likely be the same with anyone.

Absolutely, I hope they would be like that with everyone and it’s not just for a YouTuber

@@nigel.w Absolutely agree , A automotive YouTuber could do a lot of reputation damage to a dealer that doesn’t toe the line .
Does make me wonder if they would be so understanding and helpful if Ped wasn’t a YouTuber .

My mate had exactly the same issue in his 991.2. He called me one day whilst driving to ask if it’s normal for the engine to smoke on the overrun. I said to him that I suspected one of the Turbo’s is failing so he booked it into Porsche. They came back and said it was the same return pipe which they cleaned and re-installed. At the time I laughed and told him oil had got in there somehow and that I still thought it was the turbo. Sure enough a couple of days later it was smoking again so the car went back in and guess what, they found the Turbo had failed.

When finished my mate asked if I could collect it for him which me and my wife did but 10 miles into the journey a ‘Don’t drive’ warning light came on. We called Porsche recovery which I later found out was the AA and we waited by the side of the road for 4 hours. It was saying low coolant but the AA guy wouldn’t top it up because Porsche would blame him if it blew up. It was later found that they hadn’t bled the air out of the system so after 10 miles it must have burped and the water level dropped.

Shortly after my friend had lost confidence in the car so he sold it. So where have all those old school mechanics gone, the sort that understood engines. Seems to me Porsche engineers just plug the cars in and side with the results. I am old school and I diagnosed that issue on the phone at 70mph so why couldn’t they?

Thankyou Pedro for being so open and honest. I feel for you but respect what you’ve decided to do. I can appreciate is you lose confidence in a car you simply can’t keep it, good luck with whatever you buy next. I’m sure everyone here wishes you well and can relate to this.

You did the right thing. Just before Christmas I bought a 2013 Volvo C70, one of the last, with just 29,000 miles and seemingly immaculate. I brought it home and left it on the driveway for a fortnight – it was meant to be a weekend car, rather than a daily, and work commitments meant I couldn’t use it. I joined the owners club, sorted additional insurance, and even bought a spacesaver spare, which it lacked. Anyway, I went out to use it eventually and noticed the windows were completely steamed up – I then found the boot was soaking, along with the passenger footwell. I was gutted, but really felt I had no option other than to reject the car – you have 30 days to do so, and I was already a fortnight in. Like you, even if they had fixed it (2 separate leaks, I assume) I’d be worrying about it happening again. The dealer – a volvo specialist – reluctantly agreed to refund me, but I’m still hugely disappointed, and to be honest it’s put me off buying another car. Maybe I’m too fussy, but I really don’t want to be buying myself into a problem.

I’d have done the same. I can’t understand why Porsche get away time after time with failing engines. Almost every model for the past 30 years has a major time bomb issue waiting to go off. There’s a 991.1 GT3 locally that I’m forever tempted by but I just couldn’t take the risk of it lunching itself.

Sorry to hear this. I chose a 991.1 GTS Cab precisely because of all the issues with a .2. Too late now but I was surprised to see you’d bought a .2.

What a shame but unfortunately sounds a common failure. You did the right thing in getting out. No point keeping a car you don’t trust.
For this very reason I bought a 991.1 GTS (Targa). Superb. Very happy foregoing the newer tech and higher performance for reliability (touch wood!) and THE NOISE 😎. Just come back from a 2,000 mile Euro Alps trip. Very comfortable, over 32 MPG and a brilliant drive. Highly recommended.

We did exactly the same a few years ago (albeit not with a Porsche). Best decision we made. Once confidence is lost you need to acknowledge it and move on, as hard as that can be when it’s a new car and all of the administrative pain that comes with it. Very unfortunate but great job (as always) on explaining it and taking us with you on the journey. Looking forward to seeing a point in time when you get your hands on the “right” Porsche!

Absolutely gutted for you Pete! I had a similar experience with a VW Golf Mk5 GTI Pirelli edition a few years ago, lovely car to drive but just had fault after fault and I couldn’t trust it on a drive – especially when driving my wife and young son around.

I picked up a Mini Clubman JCW a few weeks ago (306bhp model, pan roof & a few other options), absolutely in love with the car & intend on keeping it for a few years – your videos on Charlie helped my decision massively!!!
