Mini F66 JCW – Long Termer Update – So Good but not Perfect !

I have actually been running the Mini F66 John Cooper Functions as my long termer for 2 months now thanks to Mini UK. We utilize it every day and have to state it is an excellent bundle. I thought it was time for an upgrade. In this video I talk you through the things I like and the important things I believe could be done better … Oh and it is really cold!

I do miss my JCW but I would want another manual with a bonnet scoop and badge’s to show it was a true JCW so I guess it’s not happening.

We picked up our JCW in December. Exactly the same spec as yours. We love it. It’s a riot to drive and we are still being good while we run it in. Agree about it being a good long run car. The assisted driving tech is far better than other cars we have had. I have to agree about the JCW needing to have a unique look. A JCW badge should mean it’s a JCW. Its made me remember that driving can be fun. I smile every time i get in and start it up.

I have the countryman s u25. My favourite thing about the central display is personal mode and the ability to upload my own pictures to use as a wallpaper. It really personalises the interior however a downside i have with it is that with it being an oled display it can be very bright. I don’t mind the chunky steering wheel and it’s nice that it’s heated although I find it a bit inconsistent, somedays it feels nice and warm and sometimes feels like it’s not even on despite being on full.

I really like this new JCW. Not much more per month than my current F56 JCW, so very tempting and no more run flat tyres. Also a rare thing to have a 2 door hot hatch these days.
I think I am trying to persuade myself in to getting one but I do love my F56.

Nice review Pete. Currently running a F56 Cooper S as a ‘weekend toy’ and love it. The ‘new shape’ F66 raised a few eyebrows on release but I think it looks mega and I’d seriously consider this JCW in the future….

Great review as always Pete! It’s crazy nobody bought the manual! No real surprise I suppose, considering the lackadaisical attitude towards driving these days! 😮

the type of people buying these JCW minis and Golf Rs etc aren’t the type of people who care about driving engagement, they just want to go fast with pops and banges and vape out the window at 90mph

After owning a R56 and a R55 both with manual transmission for over 16yrs and 300 k miles total the new models are too gimmicky and expensive for me for what they are. I moved on to another brand but I do miss the Mini. Thanks for the video.

@tombabington9652 what did you buy? Intrested to hear as we still have a JCW with a manual box. Nothing new appeals!!

Great review. I’m led to believe the reason for the Mini (and Ford) using a separate screen for the HUD is because of the heated windscreen interfering with the display. With a Volvo If you get a winter pack and the HUD they delete the heated screen. Keep em coming!

I bet the car is a blast to drive but I don’t like the steering wheel and lack of gauges/ speedometer in front of the wheel. I wear prescription sun glasses that are polarized which makes the head up display useless to me unless I am driving at night. Everything else about the car is a nice step forward. Good review!!

I spec’d a level 2 cooper s and JCW with JCW only being £800 more which I didn’t think was very much.
Wife has F56 cooper s and might change to JCW later this year and I totally agree it should have a look to differentiate it from lower models – her cooper s has bonnet scoop and twin exhausts which give it sporty/assertive stance.
Great review – helpful and informative. Thanks.

Having had 6 mini’s previously, I had mixed thoughts about the F66. Initially, I didn’t like the rear of the car, missed the bonnet scoop and the twin exhausts, and wasn’t sure about the interior. I went for a golf instead. However, the F66 has since really grown on me … I also really miss the fun factor of the mini, its such good fun to drive. Last week I went for a look and loved it. So … I have placed an order for a new JCW in Ocean Wave Green. It should come around April time and I’m really looking forward to it.

Hi I just got my jcw and I use the mini app to preheat the car before going out in icy conditions in Belfast at minute.😊

Making me really miss our mini. The new model has really grown on me since it came out but like you not a fan of the steering wheel and the lack of physical buttons. Small issues really and wouldn’t stop me having one.
    Nice video mate 👏👍

I prefer the looks of my R53 JCW Cooper S with its manual gearbox and supercharger noise
