Is the Mk7 Golf GTi Clubsport S the BEST Golf EVER made ?

The Golf GTi was among the first Hot Hatches and probably the Mk7 Golf GTi Clubsport is the best variation of the GTi that was made. Just 400 systems worldwide and only 150 of those come to the UK. Powered by the 310 horse power 2.0 L turbo fuel engine from the Golf R the Clubsport is a lightweight pocket rocket. Thanks to Martin the owner for letting me share this fabulous cars and truck with you!

It’s a Clubsport S, don’t miss out the S as that distinguishes it from the Clubsport πŸ˜‰

I know. Me and the owner just referred to it as β€˜The Clubsport’ during the planning of the video and I just kept doing that during the filming πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Ooof that’s so special. As a Mk7 GTI owner they are so sweetly set up (by the person who developed the 997 GT3 RS no less) so I’m so happy that you drove the king of the Mk7 GTI’s πŸ™‚

Ped, great video, don’t forget though that it is a Clubsport S – there are many more Clubsports and they don’t have the trick bits that make the S so special. Not sure if you’re aware that the guy who broke the record twice on the Nordschleife was Benny Lechter, the chap you and Joe interviewed when you were on the ice in Scandinavia.

I hadn’t realised that 😬 Just got lazy in the vid and called it a Clubsport πŸ˜‚

      It’s Benny Leuchter, dude!

Question: What’s so difficult for way too many “Anglo-Saxons” not to completely butchering literally EVERY quite simple German name???
      What’s so difficult for you to pronounce L E U C H T E R in a proper way?? Are you dyslexic?
Why are a lot of Brits and Americans just incapable to “reproducing a simple foreign name”, letter by letter, the right way? With not too many, not too less letters.
      It’s l, e, u, c, h, t, e , r. LEUCHTER . Not Lechter, and definitely not Lecter… πŸ€¦β€β™‚
What’s wrong with you oh so (pseudo-)smart Anglo-Saxon clowns???
For us Germans it’s just naturalness NOT TO butchering English names in the same way, you are doing it with German names. Because we definitely care about names with just the right amount of letters, which are in the correct order…

Brits and Americans totally SUCK, if they’re really that ignorant and DUMB!

      Greetings from Germany

Hooray!! So glad you enjoyed it. I have a 7.5 GTI Original. It’s a special limited run for Australia only. It’s a stripped back 3 door manual, and i think your mate Joe did a review of it a while back. I absolutely love it and it only comes out on special days to drive the high country roads here in Victoria. I really would like to do some tasteful mods but not done so yet.

I think this is a wonderful car. Performance hot hatches are a dying breed, so as someone who has owned 205Gti, RS1600i and Golf Gti mk5, I’m craving for another one. I would love another Golf, and this is so special….. as is the forthcoming Gti edition 50…..

I never got the GTi hype until about 6 months ago when I bought my GTi TCR. What a great car. Swapped my BMW F82 M4 for it and no regrets. It’s not as hardcore as the Clubsport S but it’s more track focused than a standard GTI. So much fun to drive, more so than my old M4.

I had a Mk1 GTi as a company car – yes, I’m that old! I honestly didn’t think a car could get any faster – it felt insane back in those days. I rather foolishly had a BMW 318i when I came to change it as everyone wanted a 3 Series in the days of the Filofax. Happy days. πŸ™‚ Good to see a GTi being enjoyed, a great little car.
