DACIA BIGSTER – Its rivals should be VERY worried ! – FIRST DRIVE

The Dacia Bigster may have a daft name however it impresses on lots of levels. Smart and elegant style and all at a really competitive rate. I have finally got to hang around with the cars and truck. Let hope it does not dissatisfy in the driving department!

    Great value for money
My friend has a 5 year old Duster used as a , business vehicle it’s done 112 k , all it’s had is tyres and servicing
He paid 13 k for it as a demo , he says it owes him nothing
The Brand is better than most people give it credit for

Your friend has probably gotten the 1.33 L gasoline version, which is the best of Duster.

Ive got one in the extreme spec, with the hybrid, and the pan roof. Its REALLY nice, and we are super happy with it as a family car! Its not “exciting”, but it’s not supposed to be. It does everything we need it to well, and I think it looks as good as anything else in the car park. Not disappointed at all. We came from a BMW wagon previously but for the family car I am just looking for practicality and value. This delivers.

How do you cope with the lack of power and torque?

    3. @DaveLivesey Avatar
      @DaveLivesey

@@Neil2022it’s totally fine for a family of 4 for everyday driving (And I have had very fast cars in the past). If you are looking for a track car I’d suggest something else!

Is that the Hybrid 155? I’ve heard not to ‘push it’ too much. You finding that to be true?

    Great review as always Peter.
My parents have owned Dacias for a few years now and love them. They aren’t bothered about image and like the simplicity.

Looks a great VFM practical family car and I agree with you that Dacia have a great range of cars now. Their design department have got the looks just right I think on all their range now. In reality these are the sort of cars that 99% of motorists need as daily affordable transport

I think Dacia are a manufacturer who actually understand what their customer base wants. No high gloss piano black inside,no haptic buttons, no focus on thrills most us don’t need. Well done Dacia..

I agree. Many people want a big car that doesn’t get stuck in slight snow or mud. And this thing delivers exactly that.

Sure it has a screen and many functions on that screen, but so many functions also have a physical button. I drive the new Duster and yeah because of the history people tend to laugh at it. But since the restyling all their models have become a lot nicer while still being the cheapest. For my budget i could have gone for a brand with higher reputation, but i would have gotten a so much smaller car. And no small car how expensive it might be drives like a bigger car, because weight and wheelbase are main contributors. Also i like the hard plastics they are easy to clean. And the parts you actually touch like the center console or the steering wheel are soft. I always wonder why people care about the top of their dash has to be soft, what wierdo is constantly stroking their dash???

Just a shame their prices are creeping up.. 30 grand isn’t cheap by any means for most of us. I remember being able to get a basic Sandero for change on £6k!

My mum recently got a new Duster, I won’t lie I kinda took the mic for a few weeks til it turned up and gotta say I’m impressed. It’s a much better car than I expected.

I think they’ve hit the sweet spot for car ownership. A practical, well built family car at a good price. The owners don’t car about the 0-60 time or how fast it goes around the Nurbergring. But it’s like any new car, I wouldn’t buy one brand new, but a 2 or 3 year old second hand buy, it would be rude not too.

We have had ours for a week. We are averaging about 54mpg and the boot can fit an adult Great Dane with the seats up. We had a Honda crv hybrid before and the economy is about 10mpg better and the engine is quieter. Interior quality isn’t as good but it is a massive amount cheaper and no luxury car tax.

I’m ordering mine in November, getting the Extreme spec 4 x 4. Had a test drive in the same model you test drove in the video and was very impressed with it. A lot of car for the money.

When you look at the Dacia range and note how well they are selling you have to wonder if it was sensible for the VW Group to move Skoda so far upmarket. That is not to decry what great cars Skoda are now producing but they are arguably now in the traditional main VW brand market leaving VW to trade on their past reputation rather than being the best and default choice if you want a quality car without a premium price. Even in sales Skoda is beginning to eclipse VW in Europe where buyers are beginning to question what extra they get for the VW badge. The Duster and Bigster have a clear identity separation from Renaults so they appeal to different buyers. I feel Skoda really went wrong in not replacing the Yeti with a distinctive tonka toy design model.

A great car and exactly the kind of road test that really interests me, rather than more upmarket vehicles that are outwith the budget of the majority of people..

Renault just released A DUSTER. HERE in Australia. got some good reviews. perhaps its a bit too cheap for Aust. Renault’s reputation might hold it back. Citroen just left the room. Couldn’t sell their cars if they sold em half price. How the heck do you drive on those narrow road. Looks dangerous. Thanks for your vids mate. Good reviewer Cheers for now

We’ve had the top of the range with sunroof extreme hybrid version 4 x 2 since end of June in black and bronze, we love this car very cheap to run can’t go wrong by the way this is the first car we’ve ever had. That’s does over 600 miles when you fill her up. On the motorways it’s EV most of the time and it works out between 10 and 12 pence per mile amazing

Good news! I have ordered my Bigster 4×4 Extreme. And I am a guy who, because of bad experience with 2008 1.6MPI Logan, hated the brand with passion. But when the new lineup came, I informed myself on whats new with an open mind and really liked what I heard and read, so I said to myself – this is my type of family car.
