All New Lexus ES – Better than anything from BMW or Mercedes ?!

The new Lexus ES is up against some stiff competition from BMW and Mercedes however can it measure up to it? I invested the day with the Lexus ES350e to see if I could answer that question.

Pete artificial leather???? No thanks. What on earth is happening with the awful plastic interiors nowadays? I would have expected Merino ventilated seats minimum. The Lexus LBX has leather and “Alcantara” suede and that’s their small SUV.

The top spec has semi aniline leather, he’s incorrect.

It’s as exciting as most other Toyota saloons.

I like the look but I’d struggle to buy it over Lexus’ own RZ.

Disappointing range, old tech charging that will make it out of date very quickly. 8 sec to 60 is pretty dire in this day and age. Looks good but at £59k base. No thanks

Lexus / Toyota are at least 2 generations behind everyone else when it comes to EV’s

Even with a massive discount the Lexus RZ was an easy pass, from day 1

And yet it will probably be a beautiful and wise long term ownership proposition. Tech alone is vastly overrated I think.

Love your videos/reviews Ped, but I’m afraid I’m not a fan of this Lexus (or for most Lexus), watched video though in an attempt to convince myself to “sit on the fence”, but I just can’t. Not a pretty car, but Lexus does the whole practical, flawless things with their cars. I prefer something sexy, a bit unpredictable and drivers car 🤷‍♀️😬

Fair point, it’s definitely built for reliability over excitement, which isn’t for everyone! 👌

They’d be doing well to sell half a dozen of the things.

I started watching this, and i liked it, and wouldn’t mind owning that, after owning a ux300h and an LBX. Then you went and spoilt it all by saying its only a BEV, suggesting it will probably never be available as a hybrid or PHEV. I dont have a drive way, i dont want to pay 85P per KWh, and i dont want a crappy range, come on lexus wake up n smell the coffee, not everyone wants an electric car.

It’s hybrid and EV in North America (and I think continental Europe also?). Funny enough when I selected “hybrid” on the Lexus website it brings up the ES, so I wonder if they’re just delaying hybrid sales for the UK? I’m glad we have a hybrid where I am!

The Chinese seem to be light years ahead of the game with EV’s at the moment and that really pains me. But the biggest negative with this Lexus is the styling. Unlike the Lexus LC500 that I’m currently thinking about buying, I could never walk up to this Lexus and have my heart skip a beat each time I saw it.

I think the Prius is a better looking car than this Lexus, which looks like Toyota’s previous design language/style.
And can we start a campaign for smaller wheels on cars? Better ride, better efficiency, cheaper tyres. Huge wheels look like kid’s drawings of cars…

I won’t touch any car with the sensors on the front like that. I had a Hyundai ionic with the same box and nudged one of those bloody black poles in a car park …just a slight nudge didn’t affect the bumper but it broke the radar crap at the front.. replacement cost was 6000 pounds for a car that cost 30k😮

Positives – They dropped Chademo charging.
Negatives – It’s still years behind the competition.
