The IONIQ 5 has been a hugely effective and truck but what the N Divinsion of have actually done is groundbreaking. Some might state the phony gears and sound generator are all fake and a gimmick. My view is they are ground breaking and we will see more of this innovation in future EVs from other brand names!

Couldn’t really tell from the video whether you liked it or not 😉.

Seems like a lot of fun. Imagine how good the fun part of it would be in a smaller, lighter, non SUV package.

I so want one of these! Great to see your reaction to it. Think I’ll get one in a couple of years when they’ve depreciated a bit

It’s the only EV that would make me switch. I’m grinning from ear to ear just watching you enjoy it 🙂

Next year Kia its sister company will be bringing the face lifted EV6 GT with the same set up. So artificial gears and 650hp with boost. So then you will have a choice of two styles. I currently have the Kia EV6 GT and I love the car it is blisteringly quick with 585hp on tap. But after a while the speed/acceleration almost becomes irrelevant and the thing that you miss from a performance ICE cars is the noise and sensation. This solves a lot of those things petrol heads love.
People moan that it’s artificial noise, but let’s be honest a lot of great ICE cars (M3 for example) have the sound pumped through the speakers due to noise legislations etc these days. Top job the Hyundai/Kia group are doing. And the smile on your face Ped says everything 👍.

It will be interesting to do a data download on these cars after a year to find how quickly drivers get fed up with the noises and turn it off. I suspect that it will be like many other optional electronics and only be used ocassionally by most drivers. Otherwise seems like a reasonable car.

I think I tried this a while back. IIRC they don’t allow you to physically download a copy of purchased magazines to your respective device and you can only read via the app. True? If so, I think it’s cr@p. If you’ve paid for it you should be able to take physical ownership of it

The lad has an I20N and the other half has a Kona N,both are fantastic cars, so when i looked at changing my car, this was right up there. In the end I came this close>< to getting one. 2 things concerned me, 1- was that it's so heavy it would fall through the driveway, if it managed to squeeze on! and 2-I'm just not ready to go EV and worried that the Taycan depreciation would happen to this. Then i watch your review.... Great to watch someone genuinely having fun🙂

Like Ped, I’m a proper track experienced petrol head but I was super impressed with the 5N. I especially loved the All Gloss Black model…. What a stealth car in black… 🥰

I don’t doubt the gear thing is very clever and enhances the driving experience. But it is not a hot hatch at 2.2 tons and I just couldn’t pay nearly £70k (with a couple of options) of my own money for a Hyundai.

    Told you you’d like it
I’m 9000 miles in now had mine since March in uk 🇬🇧
    Epic car love it
I’ve had M3’s 4’s 5’s all RS’s been on manufacturer track days with M and RS and this thing is amazing
It’s a Swiss Army knife of cars it will do it all – family holiday, go to the shops, school run, cross country blast, motorway limo, hot hatch, fast suv, take on and beat most supercars, take it on track days with Hyundai warranty approval
    – and during the week do the commute to work and back cheaper than taking the bus (using home charger if course)

    It’s an astonishing car

Not sure if you were in the damp Ped but it will limit your power it won’t give you full power and torque if it’s damp it’s a funny 4×4 system a bit like xdrive you will feel it catch that slip then it’s full 4×4 but it’s drip feeding that power
Only when it’s dry will you really feel the power – best setting is Sport and boost I rarely bother with launch control
    On twisties N shifts
N setting with N Brake is incredible you can track day without using the brake pedal it has crazy hard regen braking in that mode but you can’t use N shift
Lots of settings a tweeks but when you get your head round it
    Boy does it deliver
Oh and Matt Blue is the fastest welcome to team blue 🩵

I drove one back in the summer and absolutely loved it. I’d test driven a 991.1 C4S a few days before and that was just boring compared. It just goes to prove that it’s not the drivetrain that makes a car boring. You can get amazing Petrol, Diesel and Electric cars. You can also get really boring Petrol, Diesel and Electric cars. It’s the best car I’ve driven in a long time. The only thing that put me off was the depreciation from buying a new £65k car. You can get one new for around £60k now though and it is very tempting 🤣.

    What an amazing car.

All these hot hatch EV’s that are now being released such as the R5 need to have this sort of engagement. It’s not that hard really is it. 2 flappy paddles and some clever software to simulate gear changing and some decent speakers to emulate the sound of an engine.

    It is a brilliant concept.
Even if Hyudai had that sound and feel in a 300 kW or 200 kW EV it would be a game changer and make those that love cars have the sensory feel of driving a drivers sports car.
IMO it could even be the smallest of EV that would just change the game forever.
Whilst I have not driven the Ionic 5N I feel it might be like driving a driving game simulator on the road.
The noise and gear changes as per Gran Gran Turismo however actually in a car, where you get the real world feedback as you throw the car through its paces.
Would have loved to have seen that on the ice drift circuit in Italy up against the Maserati.

I got to test drive a 5N at an EV expo in Long Beach. I loved the handling and suspension, and the traction control is lively – didn’t make the car feel like it’s on rails. . I wasn’t in to the fake sounds or retro feel – especially because the latter slows it down vs just having all the power all the time 🤷‍♀️. But I’m an EV person for over 10 years.

Jeremy Clarkson said it best: “if I had a car less than 500 horsepower I can’t overtake anybody”.

If you’ve never driven a car with 500+HP, you won’t understand how game changing it is on long country drives. You can overtake safely in so many more situations.

EVs make 500HP accessible to so many more people.
