    On the road, beyond 500hp is essentially meaningless. You could beat that car on England’s roads in a golf.

      I had a few high 500+HP cars and now drive a 315HP Porsche 981 Boxster S, which is my best and most fun car ever.. Having more power on public roads is pointless as you can never use it for long legally.. Unless you live in Germany with limitless Autobahn..

    Maybe it’s an age thing, but I don’t see the point of these mega powerful cars chasing speed records. Does it do anything for the cars that regular people buy?

      Good question: I’ve been thinking the same. In the real world, you may not hit those speeds it’s not practical on a day to day basis.

      Trickle down of the underlying new technologies as is the case with F1. Yangwang U9 has very clever suspension technology for instance. It’s also a halo car for BYD and these sort of projects will push further developments in battery density, chemistry & charging speed etc. This should enable lighter, longer range and cheaper EVs moving forward.

      @@solentbum Very true, but things always develop quicker when there’s either a competition with a prize and status to be won, or just competitors in the same market to be beaten. It’s the ego/need to be best aspect of human nature.

    Topic for you PP that might give you something to think about. Car driving assisted tech. 4 of my new cars have a stupid level of technology to assist you in driving, or not IMO ! And in my opinion, making people dumb drivers, they are not engaging their brains, almost just passengers in their own cars. I actually turn almost everything off, and drive. e.g. Lane keeping, distance monitoring, blind spot, TV’s on the dash, Fruit carplay, etc etc. What happened to good old, pay attention to the road and drive safely. Thoughts PP? Maybe something for you to tackle, or not?
    Are cars making us dumb?

      It’s because no one wants a hundred grand electric Lotus. They have reported poor future sales. They’ll scale down to a level where they don’t need to comply with the 2035 rubbish.

    That speed record is on a track with limited straights, the car is still accelerating when they start to slow down. On a better track (VW’s has 5 mile straight but I cannot see them sharing!) I think it’s marketing, beat the EV record this month beat the overall speed record next month. With 3000hp it’s possible.

    Spent a few days in Hastings and went to Arundel Castle and to Goodwood on Sunday for a mini gathering. Thanks to Neil Barden and GP2 friends for the nice time! Jumped a heartbeat when I thought spotting Ruby but it was the ‘Podium’ roadster. Oh, I loved the Moggy beetle bits in the Car Fest video! Cheers!
