If you did run out of power somehow, after poor planning perhaps, there are services to help. I think one is called Zap Me, where they turn up in a van with a big battery to quickly put a few percent of power in the car, enough to get you to a charging station. Even the main roadside rescue companies offer it nowadays.

Possibly the best review of why electric car sceptics mostly don’t do the research, just follow the haters who hate electric cars and have never driven one

You don’t need to have driven one to know that you don’t like 200km of range or even less in winter. Or that there is no all wheel drive version of this specific model although the ICE version has one.
Or that you cannot charge it at home or at work.

What is it with you guys and your “only judge if you have experienced it”?

    3. @geoffreyjones6019 Avatar
      @geoffreyjones6019

@@wo-olf There aren’t many EVs that do less than 200 km/120 miles in winter, mine comfortably exceeds that (320.km, 400 km in the summer) and its range is pretty average for a modern EV. The majority of people can charge at home and/or work, but I have yet to meet anyone who can fill up at home.

Very honest of them to come forward and experience it. They are nice people and have their personal views. I guess it is not always for someone. It gives you more time to enjoy the surroundings too and maybe even set up a nice audio system in those cars aswel.

These are probably the same people who once said it was pointless to get rid of the landline or couldn’t imagine making it mobile.

The same kind of people who thought 64kb internet was fast enough, or that CRT televisions were already as good as it gets and that flat screens lacked character.

In other words, people who can’t look ahead and prefer to stay inside their narrow little bubble.

@@MrDAVIDATKIN Purchase of a new fossil vehicle in an few years time and certain city centers force you to pay money due to low emissions zone. E.g. Bradford. These zones were rolled out in 2021 So councils aren’t really bothered about emissions they just want some extra revenue and need an excuse. If they were bad they would be banned entirely.

@@TeaBreak.that has been in place for a long time in London, it would have happened whether EVs came along or not. If you have a diesel or older more polluting petrol it makes sense not to have them in city centres where air pollution is a problem causing deaths and breathing difficulties. Do you think health of the population is not important?

Not sure I could go electric for main car so will be keeping my Kodiaq, however…….. Picked up the wife’s new Elroq a week last Thursday to replace her Karoq. Absolutely loving it so far and as it will 100% be charged at home makes financial sense too. Seven seat EV Skoda?

Just use the Elroq as a daily and kodiaq for longer journeys which the elroq might not manage if there are no chargers at your far away destination. Although that is now unlikely since there is so much charging infrastructure compared to previous years. It just the many apps that are annoying.

Interesting hearing about the fear of higher electric bills.

I’ve had my id4 at the shop for a bit over a month, during that time I got a rental car. The fuel bill for just one month was approximately the equivalent of two months of commuting in my ev. So, yeah, the electric bill will go upp slightly, but you’ll save money overall due to not having to buy petrol.

It’s so typical that most of the ev haters haven’t even driven one.

Recently picked up my second EV and wouldn’t have anything else for daily driving. The latest car has one pedal driving and it is brilliant, especially in traffic jams. I’ve also swapped my long range car for a standard range, saving £2,500. I now have to charge every other weekend….

We have a guy who comes to the pub and he is the font of knowledge for EV’s. I don’t think everyone knows that they all catch fire, you never see a burnt out petrol car. They can only get around the block before you have to charge them, and then it takes two days. They’re slow… You need to replace the battery every 5 years and that costs £20,000. The trouble is he is very vocal and actually believes all the fibs.
