      @@mozzaev This topic is a bit too complex for this channel to cover properly. Buyers want to know about potential problems, the repairs (will Tesla handle them easily under warranty?), and the costs. Costwise, do those repairs require special service centers, or would it mean a trip to places like EVClinic in Romania? And so on. Videos like this are more suited for visuals—maybe even with the sound off.

    The main things that put me off getting a Tesla last year and got a different EV were:

    1: I don’t like most of the controls being on the infotainment system with little elsewhere
    2: I’ve heard mixed things about quality control particularly on the bodywork

    That all aside, Tesla have a lot going for them and I’d never choose a car (or avoid a car) due to political reasons. I mean, people drive VW despite their association with less savory regimes in the past. I vote with my wallet and getting the most/best for my money

    1. @anydaynow01 Avatar
      @anydaynow01

      The whole lack of right to repair is what gets me. But for folks who don’t work on their own vehicles and are fans of an eastern block / brutalism amalgam as their interior styling choice, then a used Tesla is right up their alley.

      @connclissmann6514

      On point 1, personal choice is yours. Point 2 dates back to the early days of the Fremont factory in California. For countries driving on the left, cars have been coming from China or Germany for many years now so that’s not an issue. Just look at one on the street as you walk by and judge yourself.

      I bought a 21 plate M3 LR with 60,000 miles on the clock a few months ago. Battery and motor warranty lasts for 8 years or 120,000 miles. Everything is automatic – the lights, the windscreen wipers etc. If you want to change anything from auto you simply press on the equivalent stick behind the steering wheel but there is literally no need. The wheel has the controls for the music, volume, moving between radio stations, skipping tracks, making phone calls. You’d be very surprised how infrequently you actually use the screen really, especially when the car is set up how you want it.

      Bodywork wise, as someone else has said, it was the models made in America which had dodgy bodywork – the ones made in China are much better. If you are able to see the VIN number of the car before you buy it you can identify where it was built because of the country code in it – there is a website which breaks down the VIN numbers for you.

    4. @sargfowler9603 Avatar
      @sargfowler9603

      The stalks on the pre-facelift can control most stuff and when pressed, bring up the appropriate control on the screen.

    The battery is usually the last thing to wear out. Plenty of examples showing 100k-200k miles very common and still going. Battery degradation is something the media hooked onto 15-20 years ago for 1st gen lithium battery EV’s with no thermal battery management. @Elaba_

      Did Elon Musk make a deal that allowed him to be called the founder of Tesla and be referred to as such in the press? Yes, that’s correct — and it has been confirmed through official sources and legal agreements.

      Facts in brief

      Original founders
      Tesla was founded in July 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Ian Wright joined shortly afterward as the third founder.

      Musk’s entry
      Elon Musk came on board in February 2004 as the lead investor. He invested about USD 6.5 million, became chairman of the board, and the largest shareholder.

      Legal recognition as co-founder
      In 2009, Martin Eberhard filed a lawsuit against Tesla and Musk (alleging libel, slander, and breach of contract), partly because Musk began calling himself a founder.
      The case was settled out of court, and one of the outcomes was that Elon Musk, along with Eberhard, Tarpenning, Wright, and JB Straubel, could officially use the title “co-founder.”

      Impact on public perception
      Thanks to this legal arrangement and Musk’s dominant public role (in press releases, speeches, and media), he gained the public image of being Tesla’s “founder” — even though he wasn’t there at the actual founding in 2003.

      Conclusion

      Yes, Musk arranged through a 2009 legal settlement that he could be called a Tesla co-founder, and the press has adopted that description. That title is the result of a deal, not his presence at the company’s creation.

    There’s a sweet spot of early 2022, when they still had ultrasonic parking sensor, had also introduced AMD Ryzen CPU for the dashboard computer but they had also brought in 16v/15.5v lithium-ion batteries in-place of the legacy 12v lead acid batteries , they are designed to last the lifespan of the vehicle and so you shouldn’t need to worry about being stuck with short or no notice that you 12v has died. The batteries switched over in Spring 2022 and you can check the specs of the Low Voltage battery from Controls>Software>Additional Vehicle Information on the touchscreen. Anything from after late 2020, which is always obvious by the ‘chrome delete’ (I.e. no chrome trim) will generally not have paint or trim issues as this signifies the switch to supply of UK cars from China. Doesn’t mean all cars before this point had -ain’t and trim issues but the factory in China was designed from the ground up to produce this car and resulted in generally much better build quality than the legacy Fremont factory. Finally I would aim for a mileage around 30-40k on Long Rangewhich is enough to start to shake out any issues in the suspension area particularly (an Achilles Heel of these cars) but still plenty of time for a pre-end-of-warranty inspection. Basic Vehicle Warranty (separate from DriveUnit and Battery warranties) is 50k or 4 years and you can get a pre-end-of-warranty inspection from places like Cleevely EV who will even come out to you to do the service and provide details of any issues that will be resolved by Tesla before the warranty expires.

    Not sure who told you software issues are a major issue. If this was ever the case the regular updates will have dealt with these years ago. The most common issues are suspension, typically from 40k miles, so check before the 50k mile warranty expires, steering wheel cover coming loose/crinkly, tailgate mechanism, and failure of a wiring loom that prevents DC charging until it is replaced.
