This £24k Kia EV2 Could Be the Most Important EV Yet

Evaluation:

Small electric SUVs are a bit like buses … you wait ages for one, and then suddenly they all reach as soon as. But while Volkswagen Group has been teasing us with the ID.Polo, Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq, Kia has actually simply gone and shown up early with the finished article, this is the brand new Kia EV2, and we've driven it.
This compact electric SUV might be one of the most crucial EVs of the next few years. With costs starting from just over ₤ 24,000, approximately 281 miles of variety and a creative, useful interior, the EV2 is aiming to bring proper everyday functionality to the small EV market. It's not almost price, it's about making a small electric car that works as your primary cars and truck.
In this very first drive evaluation, we take a closer look at the style, interior, practicality and tech, and learn what it resembles to drive. Can the EV2 beat its crucial rivals like the VW ID.Polo, Skoda Epiq and Cupra Raval? And is this the moment small electrical cars lastly go mainstream?
If Europe really requires economical EVs and not ₤ 50k SUVs, this might just be the automobile that gets the celebration started.

Thanks for the fantastic review, Ginny! I am going to the Kia First Drive event in early May but, based on this review, I am even more certain that this will be the replacement for my Soul Maxx – and of course with the big battery!🙂

Now just need to put the consumption in kWh/100km 😅

If it enters €28k territory for the big battery, then it has entered the Kia EV3 base battery with heat pump territory. (So, how does it get sold).

In Germany, all electric Kias & Hyundai are expensive to insure. I don’t know if this, built in Slovakia reduces the high insurance rate.

Easy, I don’t want something as gigantic as an EV3.

This is the benchmark now. Small cars are often only cars so the range is exactly what is needed. Well done Kia.

Will KIA UK finally realise that some of us want the best efficiency and allow us to have a heat pump on the Air Spec with the smallest wheels – probably not but fingers crossed!

Air with heat pump is available. Light version, it is not.

@drunken.monkey6722interesting but I haven’t managed to find uk specs yet?

I like a box on wheels. The price, range, efficiency, and eligibility for UK grants means as a household we have to look at it and compare it with a Renault 5, which is the present favourite. I rarely do drives over about 100 miles but have just done one from roughly Tenbury Wells to Looe in Cornwall. If we had one that would be the car I would have taken in preference to my Smart #1 Brabus which struggled to get three quarters of the efficiency claimed here. Smart for fun almost every day and Kia for occasional range. The space in the Kia with the back seats down would be how it would be used for dogs and a folding e-bike.

Car manufacturers obsession with stupid door handles…..I just can’t deal with them…just give me a normal door handle

I suppose it’s for drag coefficient.

    2. @willb8852 Avatar
      @willb8852

@TigerP1it is but at the expense of usability…I’d rather have a car with 5 miles less range and some proper door handles than those stupid flush pop out abominations

      I know. *It’s bloody bonkers.*
All for the sake of probably no more than 40 yards of extra range when fully charged up. You’re paying for something that can go wrong so easily, as compared to _normal ones_ and are so akward to actually use.

For safety reasons, in China they have banned flushed door handles. I guess we should be seeing normal handles soon at least in China-made cars.

As great as the car may be, the door handles that I have to use every day are unfortunately a dealbreaker for me.

Interesting to see ~4.1 mi/kWh in mixed driving. Efficiency at this size often matters more than headline range, especially as urban EV adoption scales.

    1. @4literv6 Avatar

whats his name on autofeugel got 4.1 at 100kmh hwy steady state driving on his range test or 3.3 at 120kmh!
Not bad efficiency imo but it’s underpowered and overpriced by about 10-12% imo. I bet they drop the price by late this year to next year as they ramp up and vag brings out all their similar compact segment ev competitors!
