      It’s the most ridiculous feature any manufacturer could ever offer unless it’s a minivan which usually have a central up mounted bigger screen with many input options! 3grands is litteraly a joke

    Getting only 280 miles out of 116kWh of battery is amazingly inefficient and fits perfectly with the G-wagon vibe. I bet it goes forever in cities though, and because that’s where it’ll spend most of its time, I’m okay with it. Great EV integration–luxury is the perfect use of electrification because it’s effortless, quiet, and immensely powerful.

    Also, I really enjoy this presenter. Their energy and humor makes it easy to watch the whole review, even when I’m not into a particular car.

      Inefficient? 116kwh isn’t even 4 full gallons of road gas in energy equivalent SMFH!
      Or about 3.5 gallons worth of road diesel!

      ​@@4literv6Of course it’s better than an ICE car, but 2.4 mi/kWh (or 3.9 km/kWh) for an EV is wild and almost certainly related to its heft at more than 3 tons. For reference, this Merc is seeing only a bit more than half the efficiency of most other EVs on the road right now. Most EVs will only see those numbers in the coldest week of winter or the hottest week of summer.

      Probably does 360 miles crawling around London and more importantly doesn’t pay congestion charge if it’s a EV right. I’d have that in Electric form because getting 16 mpg in the ICE version would get boring real fast.

      Blablablabla it’s an atrocity! And because of that massive heavy battery it cannot even tow let alone be a great road trip vehicle! The significantly way less powerful diesel on the other hand is the perfect vehicle, the professional model with even less electronics is even much better too! Electric doesn’t make it better in any way possible.

      @@4literv6lol!!!! It doesn’t matter with the lame conversions! It’s still much less capable than the diesel! This electric crap can’t even tow let alone actually achieve some decent range! Now imagine modifying it for overlanding? It’s not even a thing to think about!

    Re the party trick, I recently got stuck at the top of a road in the lakes, with a tiny slot in which to try & turn … in a Kia EV9, with the turning circle of an aircraft carrier! 20 turns later I somehow made it. That feature for those moments, though slowly turning, would be incredible! Or just add rear steer to the next EV9 please!

    Yeah honestly at this point the Chinese luxury cars are almost two decades ahead of German cars and it’s baffling to me that Mercedes keeps making the same mistakes over and over again…

    At least you can opt for a spare wheel. Without one I would not consider it to be a 4×4. I also believe all cars should come with a spare. I live in a semi remote area and travel to quite remote areas. No road side assist in many of these and the tire repair kit is incredibly limited in what it can repair.

    Ah Mercedes have caught up with others with the Tank Turn I see. Love the comment about ‘big things’, hehe. Always love when you do the reviews, thank you Nic! Doesn’t the UK have a certain weight limit so if you fill it with passengers will you need a different drivers license since it will be over the limit?

      Yes 3.5 tonnes you need a C1 licence, unless you are “old” like me, before those limits were brought in. So 4 x 80kg occupants and you’ll be overweight. Electric vans it’s 4.25t, but this isn’t a van……Interesting point.

    I always thought the G-Wagon was the ugliest Merc on the planet with its boxy styling, etc but this is the 1st time I’ve seen the interior and its softened my take on it. Glad Nicola’s ‘flappity, flap, flaps’ are back

    My dad worked for a Merc dealer in ’79 when the OG G was launched – the sales team roped all staff (and interested kids) into helping at the launch event, and arranged to have a few yomping all day up and down a steepish not-quite-mountain in the North York Moors area near Roseberry Topping. It’s a shame the new G is such a costly thing that no-one will recreate those sorts of launch experiences these days…

      In those days they were aimed at people who needed 4wd and towing capability. Nowadays they’re aimed at rich people who want a vehicle that’s high enough to see over all the faux off roaders at junctions and in the car park and are bored with their Range Rovers. That’s excluding the Eastern European mafia bosses who need the armoured versions.

    Actually, the 360 turn would be very useful in those little carparks where you enter to find no spaces, and reversing out is really difficult due to visibility and other factors.

    This is not even remotely something thats likely to ever affect me, but if I’m paying six figures for an electric SUV, I’d prefer it to have a 22kW three phase AC charger so I can make full use of my mansion’s equally bougie electrical supply! Not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things.
