Tesla Model 3 vs BYD Seal TESTED – Is Tesla’s newcomer already second best? | Electrifying

#teslamodel 3 #

The Tesla kick-started the electric transformation in 2019 and stays a substantial seller globally. However time does not stand still and the United States giant has simply launched a brand-new, improved version that introduces brand-new outside design components, longer varieties and an enhanced interior. It's likewise (somewhat) more budget-friendly, with the entry-level design now back under ₤ 40,000.

But are the updates enough to keep the Design 3 at the top of the electric saloon sales charts? Throughout its 4 year production run, Tesla hasn't lacked rivals but has seen them all off quite easily. The current competitor is from a brand name that numerous will not have actually become aware of: . Having actually launched in the UK with Atto 3 and Dolphin supermini, the Chinese giant actually sells more cars than Tesla and has big ambitions for its brand-new European operation.

On paper, the two are very comparable with 300+ mile ranges, loads of devices and similar costs when purchased on PCP finance (as 95+% of all new cars and trucks are). Join Ginny and Nicola as they pitch the two beginners head-to-head to discover which is the very best package.

    Great review 👏 👌 i like that Nicola was driving the Tesla 😊 on the cars, personally I’ll consider BYD after they’ve proved to be suitable for UK roads, that they have an established UK service network, and that the interior doesn’t look like it was designed for American Conservatives. By then, Tesla will have found a way to bring back the stalks (every company gets design choices wrong, cf. the yoke steering wheel abandoned in the latest model)

    I think I will stay with my Genesis GV60 so far I have not come across a better EV , nothing wrong with a Tesla , but I like having some buttons and having a key . I really don’t like these big tablets for my dash and having to swipe up and down to change gear thats joke also as Ginny said buttons on the steering wheel to signal another joke . Out of the 2 cars I like BYD from what Ibut I think it need more time before people will rush out and buy one .

      @@Alberto-mq7gw I think the top of the line Tesla 3 and the Genesis are about the same price , I bought my Genesis 16 months ago it was $85K Canadian dollars , my friend has a Tesla 3 only kept it 9 months he really did not like it because you had to do everything with your mobile phone and the touch screen . I have another friend with the Porsche Taycan loves the car in so many ways , put the price it out of sight . I’ve owned an AWD Performance Seal for 2 months it costs less than a RWD 3 here in Thailand. Fantastic car, great performance, luxury, refinement and no squeaks or rattles. You can access heated/cooled seats by dragging down from the top of the screen. The sunroof is silver coated and does a much better job than Teslas at reflecting heat. I have the V2L hooked up to my solar system to provide backup power to my house (videos on my channel for the doubters)

      I’m sure the BYD is a great car but in the UK it starts at £5k more than the model 3 standard range which makes no sense ,fair enough the long range BYD seal is £1300 cheaper than the long range model 3 but from what I can see people are willing to pay that little bit more for the Tesla long range,the model 3 over here is a no brainer and pre-orders now are nearly 2 month waiting list so sales are very strong.

    I’ve been reading about the regen on the Seal and it seems like they’ve implemented the regen through the brake pedal. When the pedal is first pressed it engages strong regen and blends the brakes in as needed. It appears this was aimed at people switching from ICE cars. It really is a matter of preference though, I’m on the side of what BYD have implemented to have more control of the car.

    How does either car get round the legislation on fiddling with the central display considering you’re not allowed to alter sat nav, or mobiles while driving. As an older driver I struggle to re adjust focal length quickly enough, and as pointed out the indicators whilst lock turning

    1. @saulgoodman2930 Avatar
      @saulgoodman2930

      Auto pilot helps a lot in this regard. If you need to fiddle having the auto pilot keeps you centred and slows down if cars ahead slow down for the odd second that you’re tinkering with the controls. (I don’t mean avoid looking for mammoth sessions but the couple seconds that’s required in until you get used to it.) You could also just use voice assistance

    2. @EVinstructor Avatar
      @EVinstructor

      All the things you need to do while driving are on physical buttons. A lot of things are completely automatic and the car operates these things well. The only thing that you might feel like fiddling with while driving is the heating. Generally set to automatic it maintains a comfortable temperature. The control to increase and decrease temperature is at the bottom of the screen and after a while muscle memory takes you to it. Alternatively, this is what I do a lot, push the right hand steering wheel control and say “temperature 22”. Works a treat and safer than buttons.

    @niklaswejedal463

    I am so with Ginny; the indicator buttons on the steering wheel are frustratingly awful – I hate it! And it gets even worse on the yoke, as you can’t feed it as easilly arround with both hands. Every round-about becomes an indicator nightmare. And I do think that Nicola is right about the Tesla being more robot than car. It is very good at what it is doing, but with a complete lack of enjoyment to it. Styling-wise, it is nice but not interesting. – And the fart-noises… give me a break. If it was animal-noises like a chimp, cat or a dog, then maybe I would find that somewhat amusing, but fart-noises… I am not 5 years anymore. Apart from Teslas supercharger network, I think the BYD is the more attractive option here; looks better and seems to be more involving to drive – not to mention it got a real indicator stalk. BTW, I do think the general Electrfying audience is informed enough of EVs in general to have heard of BYD before. I saw my first one ten years ago: a taxi at the Barcelona Airport, and the Atto 3 has become such a massive hit here in Sweden even my parents (who are not into cars at all) know what a BYD is.

    While the slight improvements in all areas for the new Model 3 are welcomed, it wouldn’t be enough for me to consider the upgrade. Especially when they removed the stalks.
    The BYD is 300kg heavier?!? And it doesn’t have access to superchargers like the Tesla. Nope, the Model 3 remains the king. I think I’ll consider swapping out all the front panels to the upgraded highland version later down the road. 😉😎

    It’s really sad that the once innovator has gone backwards with every refresh. I already couldn’t by a car without a driver and heads up display, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, Matrix headlights, Blindspot monitoring and a rear wiper. But the delete of parking sensors and indicator stalks is downright ridiculous. Someone that has never driven before could self park better than a Tesla. 😞

    1. @Alberto-mq7gw Avatar
      @Alberto-mq7gw

      For all the good things that Tesla has, those stupid decisions will keep them as a niche brand for techies, especially once everyone else (and the infrastructure) catch up with Tesla in a few remaining areas.

    2. @patmanrick Avatar
      @patmanrick

      To be fair, I agree with criticism of the parking sensors, rain sensors and stalks. But the rest of the things you mention have never been options so tricky to call them a step backwards. Other than blind spot monitoring, which Tesla have added. I would also say that you don’t need CarPlay and Android Auto because the native OS is so good.

      Whilst being critical of some changes, I think it’s also relevant to talk about the positive changes from the refresh – things like ventilated seats, better efficiency, rear screen, better microphone for calls, ambient lighting, better seats, better interior materials quality, better sound system, much improved ride and NVH, better safety (side impact improvements and manual door release latches), improved etc.

    3. @frankandrews4470 Avatar
      @frankandrews4470

      @Alberto-mq7gw

      @@patmanrick The upgrades do make it a better car for all I’ve heard, but gosh, those few dumb decisions spoiling an otherwise fine product… When Tesla loses its current advantages in EVs (won’t be long before others catch up and the infrastructure does too) they will lose lots of potential sales because of them. Normal people don’t want to have to learn and get used to something different. Even more so if it’s something worse in the first place.

    Having had my Tesla 3 go into one of their centres twice because the speedometer disappeared off the infotainment screen when being driven and then went into a hard re-set multiple times there is too much of an emphasis with functions on the infotainment screen. Now they seem have put the gear selector on the infotainment screen and the gear selector on the steering wheel. With the problem i had i would have been stuffed in selecting a gear if the infotainment screen was blank. With BYD in the UK now and Nio probably coming soon the range of choice of ev’s is increasing and more to consider. The only thing in the Tesla’s favour is the super charger network.

    I think this has to be one of the best videos since I subscribed many months ago. A more real world review with two different driver personalities and preferences. I agree with Ginny that Tesla has gone a tad too far with cost cutting on physical switches. Buttons for indicators are fine on a motorbike but not in a car, keep the fart sound though. I’ve no idea about how the wipers and screen wash are activated, if it’s though the central screen or just auto wipers with wet salt on the roads I’d be a tad concerned about ending up with my teeth in a tree. When it’s wet and salty on the roads I want manual control that’s easy to use. Once again a cracking video both and thanks for sharing.

    What from the last version to this one that makes you feel like its just a robot/not enjoyable?
