      After owning a captur Hybrid, riddled with electrical issues, I too am waiting for my first EV and it will probably be the inster

    As a young stud of age 19, back in the early 90’s i drove the “Grandfather” of this R5 Electric, the R5 GT Turbo . It was a Hell of a Car . its a miracle that i am still alive, because that R5 Turbo was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too fast for a young guy like me at that time. Luckely for me, the Turbo Charger and a few weeks later, the engine blow up. The R5 Turbo was dead and so my bank account !

    Both these cars are aimed at the same market, but at slightly different buyers within that market. Those who are tempted by snazzy looks and the “in thing”, will go for the R5. Those who value lots of practicality, and slightly different (quirky?) looks, along with clever design and efficient performance, might choose the Inster..

    It was mentioned the windnoise in the R5, but driving both recently, the tyres noise in the Renault was much much lower and immediatelly you can feel the much better soundproofing of the french car. Inster is lovely for many reasons, but R5 is superior in refinement and I went for the it.

      Nope not accurate. The Inster is a superior car in pretty much every way. Outside of Europe no one cares about Renault so its cache is very limited.

    Do you realise that neither car can change their suspension settings based on the drive mode you select? They only have springs, they don’t have adaptive suspension which is required to enable changes to the suspension based on the driving mode.

      I was just going to write exactly the same. It’s called ‘imagination’? She is really convinced she changed the suspension in the R5. Unbelievable.

    I heard one pedal driving is coming next month on the r5, with an extra level of regen and paddles on the driving wheel, like on the r4.

    When I first saw the Inster and the backlights. I instantly thought it to look like these USB things that went in the 12V socket in the cars from before the USB era. Is that just me?

    The Renault is really really cool; no wonder it’s a huge hit. The Hyundai, while quirky and practical, its wow factor tends to fade more quickly, and besides, I don’t think it has the potential to be as desired as the Honda Jazz once was.

    I like the Inster more. I like the looks, the practicality, the space inside, the much reduced width, the one pedal drive (I have been driving a swasticar for the past almost 4 years… it’s really convenient). What I don’t like is the exposed lights and almost absence of bumpers (same as the Renault), which in a city car is a capital sin and the fact that apparently it is very slow (then I would just buy a Panda – the small one – and save half the money!). But recently I’m in love with the new Nio Firefly. Haven’t tested it yet but it seems very interesting and high quality. I’m curious to see if the will offer a larger battery and what the price would be in Europe (for when I go back).

    Im 174cm and have issues with sitting behind myself in the Renault 5,
    I like both of them,
    Atleast none of them is as boring as the Citroen E-C3(that had a smaller rear seat than the 5)

    The Renault R5 looks great, super fun to drive, with bigger battery & it is quite quiet as well!
    I love the R5 I bought it, you like Inster you buy that 😉
