      A Toyota Yaris because its a super mini, like the Renault & MG used in your test. The Aygo is a city car. I do enjoy these comparison tests. But the cars in your test here are not all in the same category.

      Reliability these days is pretty much a given , I don’t know anyone who has a car now that’s let them down . And a tractor is pretty reliable but you wouldn’t want to drive one every day , the Aygo in my opinion isn’t worth having over a Yaris , it’s just too expensive .

      talking rubbish the Aygo is full of hard cheap plastic , rear passenger windows that don’t wind down , then the body work is like a tin of bake beans , I looked Aygo and Clio and clio came out top by a mile

      ​@markjohnathanappleton8642The Aygo is an A segment city car. The Yaris is a B segment Clio rival. The interior in the Yaris is every bit as good as the Clio. The Toyota hybrid drivetrain is superior. As for reliability, no comparison Renault versus Toyota. That’s why Toyota throws a ten year warranty in with all their models.

    The MG3 does indeed for almost a year have a steering wheel that adjusts both ways as well as a split rear seat

      Not a great car though. And I say that as an MG4 owner. I’ve driven an MG3 as a rental (a pure petrol version) and thought it was incredibly mediocre.

      ​@drxymif all I had was that extremely harsh engine it’d be pretty horrid. This hybrid though is fast and much more agreeable unless it fully depletes it’s battery such as up a hill. Then it sounds like it’s going to blow up! I was embarrassed to go up a hill in a 30 sounding like id forgotten to change out of 1st gear

      It is an annual salary on minimum wage, isn’t that quite cheap adjusting to what actually a pound is worth these days?

      You may be failing to take into account the inflation over time. The MG3 starting at 19k is equivalent to 12k in 2010 – and consider that modern cars also come with huge amounts of safety tech as standard, and these specific ones have hybrid powertrains and automatic gearboxes, so they are really rather good value

      My 1.2 Clio I purchased new in 2001 cost £17k in today’s money. Only came with two air bags, would fold up like a tin can in a crash compared to modern cars, had no air con, did around 40mpg, 75bhp, 140g/km, 12.5 secs to 60, none of the modern EU mandated safety features like lane assist, stability control or emergency braking, no rear view parking camera, no auto wipers, no auto lights, only 3 year warranty etc.

      It’s actually staggering that Toyota can build that Aygo X for the price they can, given that it’s like night and day compared to an old car. Just write down those specs and compare them. Keep in mind that a lot of the “extras” are mandated by regulation.

      In comparison, think how much has a 3 bed house increased over that period, despite being the exact same identical house as you’d get in 2000? Or if buying new, a heck of a lot lower quality than a house built in 2000.

    The newer model mg3 has fully adjustable steering wheel, they are using a 24 plate car.

      Toyota is also in decline, whether you like it or not. Toyota stands better than the others, but there is no doubt that it is not like it used to be. What you are writing about are Toyotas with naturally aspirated petrol engines and manual transmissions. There are almost no such Toyotas anymore, and we should mention LED displays, as well as batteries in hybrids, which NOBODY will want to replace even after 15, let alone 30 years.

      The Renault will be too. Also the Toyota is just ugly and the interior looks super old. The Renault interior will also look quite modern in 10 years, while the Toyota will feel like it’s from the stone age

    The current MG3 has split rear folding seats. Noticed yours was a ’24 reg. I got my Trophy version (with split rear folding seats) in August ’25 for £17k. Quite the bargain.

      Your loss! People who think Renaults are bad have no idea about cars. Also I wouldn’t ever buy a car as ugly as the Toyota. It’s ugly from the outside and even more ugly from the inside. The MG isn’t much better looking. The Clio on the other hand is the buy far most beautiful car in it’s class and also the best driving car. The interior of the Clio will look and feel quite modern even in 10 years. The Toyota already looks old now. Reliability really isn’t a problem for Renaults. The things that break on a Renault if it happens at all are most of the time minor things while many others might have a few less problems, but always way bigger problems. But I agree Toyota for sure is one of the most reliable brand in the world. Still I car has to look good and be practical and this Toyota isn’t both

    Great review. Covered most things including a drag race! Would never trust in car efficiency readings. They regularly over estimate efficiency. Will test drive the Aygo X soon and I am an EV driver for 9+ years. The MG warranty is not a full warranty for 7 years!. It is essentially a 3 year warranty.
