They deleted my last comment. I have a Scenic and have NEVER seen that sort of efficiency and am getting 3.4-3.6 in current temps on long motorway journeys. As they say it doesn’t make sense- no it doesn’t ladies!
Scenic also has a 3 year warranty not 5 year, where the Kia does win out.

Temps were below zero during testing by the looks of it. I have the EV3 GT Line S.(no heat pump). In current temps I’m getting between 3.6 and 3.8 early mornings. (6.00am). And between 4.3 and 4.9 on the way home. (3.30pm)That’s 80% motorway, 20% urban.

is it true that scenic has only 7kw AC charger? In Poland they sell it with great 22kw – which is game changing during shopping/cinema/cheaper electricity poles/occupied DC Chargers – in theory you could charge 100km in 30-60 minutes depending on temps and speeds.

The Kia? Oh, it’s brilliant. Technically. It’s as precise as a Swiss watch designed by an uptight engineer—everything clinically arranged, every button fettered to some grand design of “optimising the driving ergonomics.” But here’s the thing: it’s about as thrilling as a spreadsheet. The moment you sink into its efficient embrace, it transforms into that one pedantic schoolmaster who’d lecture you for daring to yawn during class. “Sit up, don’t slouch and no talking!” it nags through its symphony of judgmental beeps. I half-expect it to rap my knees with a ruler if I dare adjust the heating without using voice commands.

Now, the Renault? That’s the automotive equivalent of that supply teacher who took your class one week before summer —the one who rolled in with a crumpled linen jacket, a half-unbuttoned shirt, and a “what’s the worst that could happen?” grin. It’s whimsical. It’s French. It doesn’t so much nag you as fling open the sunroof and shout, “Vive la vie!” while handing you a slightly warm baguette. Rules? Pah. Renault’s idea of any nagging is merely melodic chimes that you can turn off with a single physical button no less.

Sure, you can buy the Kia. Explain to your sensible, brogue wearing neighbors how its ergonomic laptop tray and rare earth magnet motor make it the pinnacle of modern motoring. But when you crawling through another motorway traffic jam to your family summer vacation and the Renault glides up beside you, sunlight dancing through it’s Solarbay roof like champagne bubbles in a crystal flute? You’ll realize something: life’s too short for sensible. What we all need is a bit more joie de Vivre 🇫🇷

On the topic of a Frunk. I bought one for my Kia e-Niro. I tend to store my charging cables and air compressor in there – the needed, but rarely used items. I’ve got a tethered charger at home, so I only need the cables when public charging, or granny charging. It was well worth the money and makes use of otherwise wasted space under the bonnet of the original e-Niro.

These were my top two (Elroq wasn’t available yet or I’d have tried that too) and I went for the Scenic after test driving both. Didn’t see the point of the table in the EV3 and PCP offer was much better as indicated in the video. Total price not dissimilar when you go top spec to get the heat pump in the Kia. Agree parcel shelf is a bit underwhelming. I believe 22KWh AC charging is standard across the Scenic range. Would have liked the option of 19″ wheels on the Iconic and would use a frunk for cables so they can’t end up buried when the boot is full. Both good cars, Scenic edged it for me.

My winter/summer average efficiency is 4.4 miles kWh. Last night I did an airport run up to Poitiers which is a 120 km round trip, temperature was 3c, so I had the heater on the whole time. The car did 16.9 kWh/100km, so 3.66 miles/kWh driving at between 90 and 115 km/h, it is mostly dual carriageway with speed restrictions on some sections. I’ve driven the Scenic e-tech and was very impressed, most people here say it is a very efficient car. I’m sure yours will hit 4 miles/kWh and more come the summer.

We have had an EV3 GT Line S since just before Christmas. We needed the top spec because my wife needs the electric boot. We had exactly the same when we purchased her last car, aSportage. as the electric boot was only available on the top spec. It is supposed to be my wifes car but I absolutely love driving it. When we go out together we invariably go out in the KIA and I drive. The technology is amazing and it is just comfortable and fun to drive. The supplied charging cables go in the frunk. If we were on a long journey and found a charger that needed our cables I would not want to be emptying the boot of luggage to get the cables out. I love your reviews, you do make me smile. Thank you.

They seem more interested in faffing about trying to be amusing and failing badly, this channel seems to be style without any content, people want informed choice when they buy a car for 40k price tag, they seemed not to have done any proper testing with these cars, in turn makes the judgement of these presenters useless.

My first thought is ouch when it comes to April as both would be punished with the luxury car tax costing £600 a year for 5/6 years ! They’re not even remotely luxury cars I’m not saying they’re not luxurious it’s just that luxury tax should be on cars at the Porsche Taycan end of the market not on a relatively standard midsized family car

I think you got the miles per kilowatt mixed up between the 2 cars, my Scenic Esprit Alpine is currently (january 2025) getting 3.5 driving normally with heater on low too, AND Renault has 22kw AC as standard, so you got that wrong too, that said, i do like the EV3, but i think i made the right choice going for the Scenic, plus the google operating system is easy to use/navigate. Scenic charges way faster both AC-22kw/DC-150kw, very handy for motorway stops.
