Kia EV2 FIRST LOOK: Kia’s Answer to the VW ID. Polo

This is the Kia EV2– Kia's smallest and most cost effective electric cars and truck yet.
And uncommonly, it looks practically identical to the concept we first saw a year earlier.
Ginny Buckley takes a very first look around the production-ready Kia EV2, exploring what's altered from the concept, what's made it into production, and how it compares to crucial rivals like the Renault 5, VW ID. Polo, Jeep Avenger and Fiat Grande Panda Electric.
In this video we cover:
What's different from the EV2 principle (and what hasn't changed).
Outside style and how it suits Kia's EV line-up.
Interior area, rear-seat flexibility and creative packaging.
Boot area, frunk storage and everyday usefulness.
Battery choices, real-world variety and charging speeds.
11kW and 22kW air conditioner charging, plus fast DC charging.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capability.
Performance, pulling ability and safety tech you don't normally get in little EVs.
How the EV2 compares with the Renault 5 and the upcoming VW ID. Polo.
Expected prices and whether it might receive the UK EV grant.
With as much as 275 miles of variety, fast charging, and a practical mini-SUV shape, the Kia EV2 might be among the most important little electrical vehicles arriving in 2026.
Would you choose the Kia EV2 over the Renault 5 or VW ID. Polo? Let us know in the remarks.

    Kia’s styling is great. If i didn’t already have an EX30 i’d have got the EV3.

    (still might if Volvo don’t solve the “please dont charge past 70%” email they sent out between Xmas and new year!

      Interesting. I don’t really like any of their latest cars, just weird to me

      Should have got its sister car, smart #1 or Zeekr X instead.

      Please don’t charge past 70%!?! Wft. Are they going to update their range claims based on that, I think not. What a scam.

    I’ve been waiting for this! I think this will be the replacement for my Kia Soul Maxx next year … 🙂

    Tell you what, I respect the launch car being the base model. That’s confidence from Kia.

      Except they left out the most important part, the price.

    2. @hobbypsychologist6444 Avatar
      @hobbypsychologist6444

      @Xzibitfreek between 25-30k euro

      if its 30k the base model is not really cheap

      @alexanderstefanov6474

      The base model would have 16″ wheels

    4. @appkazoo5925 Avatar
      @appkazoo5925

      @hobbypsychologist6444 the base cannot be £30k. This is the starting *list* price for the EV3

      ‘Air’ Standard Range 58.3kWh 201bhp……..£33,055

      For the EV2

      ‘Air’ Standard Range 42.2kWh 145bhp……….£25,000 ????

      Hm, there are so many bells and whistles in this car, this should be the mid-spec version (GT-Line in GB, “Earth” in Germany)

    When the car has HUD I want the built in Sat Nav. Or even just having the guidance on the screen in front of you is much easier

      Apple CarPlay nav instructions and graphics appear in the HUD of the EV3 (I imagine Android Auto too). And in the instrument cluster too.
      I quite like Kia’s nav though. Makes road trips easier for things like preconditioning and wotnot.

      Yep, happy to confirm that Android Auto does as well (in my EV6).

    We used to be told that battery costs were the reason for high priced EVs but, now battery costs have plummeted, I’m still waiting for an affordable EV. I like the style though. Maybe when the longer range version starts selling 2nd hand.

    1. @johnnodge4327 Avatar
      @johnnodge4327

      Cars cost what they cost. The manufacturer needs to make a profit, so lower battery costs will likely go towards making EV profitable, rather than loosing loads on every vehicle made.

    2. @mikebikekite1 Avatar
      @mikebikekite1

      @johnnodge4327 I don’t mind them making a profit but I just object to calling them “affordable”.

    Think it ticks all the boxes for my next car, just need to know the price. The Inster was tempting but the dash seemed a bit dated/ cluttered, and the acceleration a bit slow, this addresses those issues.

    Using your phone in an EV for navigation incl. charging stop planning is only really feasible if the car signals the SoC to AA/CarPlay.
    For CarPlay, this is only available in very few higher- and high-end EVs (Ford Mach-E + F150, Porsche Taycan and IIRC, since recently, some Toyotas), which have a built-in satnav anyway.

    Isn’t it available with the concept car’s gorgeous interior colors and materials? I was really looking forward to that.

    I’ve been considering an EV3 Air trim – but I can’t get over the bland grey plastic interior you get without upgrading to the GT Line. The interior of this looks much better!

    From a first look will definitely consider this to replace our coming up to 5 year old Zoe ( used as a second car), but when sometime over next few years likely to move down to one car and on first look the higher range model could probably serve as the one car. Plus points for me , 22 kw AC ( I have a home charger with that power— three phase house supply), and definitely looking for V2G ability. Will certainly be on short list when available later in 2026.
