Improved? New 2025 Kia EV6 driven and rated | Electrifying

COMPLETE EVALUATION:

The Kia 6 has actually always been a difficult vehicle to specify. Not quite an SUV, not quite a conventional five-door hatch, it sits almost by itself as a somewhat left-field option for buyers searching for something that isn't a standard large family SUV.

And now, nearly 3 years after it was introduced, Kia has taken the knife to its award-winning hatch. Confronted with harder competitors than ever, Kia has upped the game with a larger battery, quicker charging and more kit. Is that sufficient to keep at the sharp end?

All models feature a new 84kWh battery that replaces the previous 77kWh pack. And, as before, the ingenious 800 volt electrical system opens to the door to some seriously quick charging speeds. Where the initial design already boasted a peak of 240kW, the brand-new 2024 model peaks at 260kW. This indicates that the cars and truck can duplicate its party trick of charging from 10-80% in under 20 minutes when linked to an appropriately effective quick battery charger.

With the larger battery comes longer ranges for all models. The longest belongs to the rear-wheel drive Air model which uses 361 miles, a 33 mile enhancement over the previous model. The least efficient is the new GT-Line S AWD version which still handles an impressive 324 miles on a full charge.

And also make sure you synchronise the framerate settings on your cameras (or in post)

Can we add in the insurance group in a review?
All well and good having 0-60 times and the fingers crossed range but insurance group is a direct hit in that pocket like PCP finance costs which you usually mention.

Does anyone else look at front light bars and think monobrow?

Nice to see you back at the end of the year, thank you.

At £51k this just does not work unless one Tom’s PCP deal blows me away. Even then there is no pizzazz. For well less than £51k you can get something from Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Brabus, or Mini which is more fun but probably less family friendly. Who wants to drive something family friendly if you really like cars? There are roof racks for the rest of the family in extremis, or best yet leave them behind. The dogs, which matter, will still fit in the back.

I test drove the EV6 when it first came out. It was ok but the interior was like being in a black hole. Totally uninteresting. This doesn’t look much better

I like a lot about it, but they’ve got to fix the lack of cargo capacity/poor use of space. I have a ten and 14 y/o and am fostering two large hounds. I get that the floor is high due to the battery, but a Model 3 has almost the same cargo capacity behind the back seats, yet quite a bit more with the rear seats down (61.4 vs 50.2). That’s a HUGE difference considering they are almost the same size and cost essentially the same after dealer markups and BS charges on the EV6.

“fix” …well I doubt they are going to redesign the car just to fit your needs…there are plenty of other cars that would suit you just fine. You might be happy with an ev9 instead.

Fantastic, I dont get the love for everything that is PI (personal identification) what is wrong with a key. 45K GBP for a car….. insane. Whats the point of high speed charging when the infrastructure isnt there?

It looks better with the new front headlights, just wondering if the lightbar can be turned off? Side profile reminds me of the Jag iPace, which is a good thing IMO.
