    Reference the seatbelt problem for women, surely a clip on handle thingy would work so you could reach it easily 😊👍👍

      While probably true it’s sad that such a thing is needed and/or doesn’t come as standard.

    I think there’s a bit of Stockholm Syndrome happening here – that grill really hasn’t got any better with age. And illuminated, at night, to oncoming traffic it just looks like the ghost of Buggs Bunny heading towards you.

    At last! a car review where they actually say how impractical Alcantara is for family car interiors. Well done Ginny.

      @@Electrifyingcom I am very tidy and don’t have kids but I wouldn’t choose Alcantara either. I am probably alone in this but I like light coloured interiors so dislike the dark upholstery and absolutely hate the anthracite headlining – can you specify the car with a lighter coloured headlining? Combined with the dark Alcantara I think the interior would be very oppressive to sit in – you need that panoramic roof to lighten things up. I am also not a fan of the exterior or that grill – the best thing you can say about it is that at least you can’t see what it looks like from the inside.

    Interesting to see BMW designing like the Scandinavians. Clean, white, minimalistic, simplistic lines, quality over quantity. They must be employing Volvo designers.

      @@Lewis_Standingyes, I agree. Because it’s an EV does it need to have this great big radiator look-alike? It’s very rude/porno-looking.

    I really don’t get all the fuzz about the climate controls…. People always lament about the missing buttons and that they have to fiddle around to find the right temperature…. As long as I’ve driven cars with A/C (and I owned about 47 cars over the years) I always set it to 22 degrees (Celsius) with fan speed and ventilation directions on “AUTO’ on the first day and then forgot about it…..

    1. @ovidiuc4 Avatar
      @ovidiuc4

      Not everyone is like you and not all cars have the auto behavior match what the user wants. I’m changing the temperature almost daily. Sometimes I want it hotter, sometimes less powerful, depending on my mood and also what people around me want.

    German car quality really isn’t impressive anymore, which is a shame to see. Cheaper quality, but more expensive prices. Not a good idea, especially given all the options available these days. Good to see that the days of badge snobery are disappearing and much more impressive, better made cars appearing on the roads. Great, honest review again. 👏🏼

    I’ve been driving an iX for 18 months, and it’s easily the best car I’ve owned in 30 years of driving new cars. (It’s my 2nd EV).
    Loads of space – the rear leg room is massive & flat floors front and rear, great performance, top level tech, very quiet when driving (pretty much silent) and very easy to live with. The driving assistance is awesome – just let the car do the driving through stop/start motorway and A road traffic. I’ll be getting another one, or the forthcoming new iX3 in 2026.

    The climate control is very easy to use – Fan control & temp for each side, and 3 different levels (feet, body and screen) of air flow to press on/off.

    BMW is one brand that’s always had a strong identity, and you could recognise any of their cars (saloon/touring/SUV/roadster etc) without seeing the badge. Twin kidney grilles, twin headlights/angle-eyes, sharp shoulder line, good proportions, Hoffmeister kink, hockey stick tail-lamps. Even as their designs evolved over the years, their cars have always looked great and distinct because of those elements. The iX is just a blob! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the whole BMW range seems a mess of different grilles and design themes. I hope the Neue Klasse gives them a decent direction to follow and a range of great looking cars, like they had with the E46/E39/E38 etc in the late 90s.

    The lack of front isofix feels like a slightly odd complaint. Only 14% of UK families have 3 kids but that includes children up to the age of 16. So the number of families with 3 or more children between 0-10 (the reasonable age you’d need isofix) is pretty small.

    Then think about who would buy a car to drive around 3 kids aged 0-10 but wouldn’t want to be able to have an adult in the front passenger seat. It feels like a concern that impacts a very small proportion of the population.

    Great review. Some would say the reason the grill did grow on you is there was no more room for it to grow on the car.
