FIRST LOOK! New Ford Capri. Has Ford finally lost the plot? | Electrifying

CHECKED OUT THE REVIEW:

Ford has some huge hero nameplates in its back brochure – Escort, Explorer, Mustang, Capri. And as you will understand it's bringing a few of those names back on as brave as the originals. The Explorer, great car – but it's not an Explorer. The Mustang – once again excellent, however it's not a Mustang. And now, I've had a first look at the electrical Capri. Which, yes … you have actually thought it, is not a Capri.

The brand-new Capri is essentially a Ford Explorer, which automobile is basically a Volkswagen. Well, sort of … Underneath the surface of both the Explorer and the brand-new Capri lies Volkswagen's MEB platform and powertrains, which you might be familiar with from the ID.3, 4, 5, Skoda Enyaq and the rest. Ford concurred a tie-up with Volkswagen a few years back, so that VW now utilizes Ford bits for its industrial vehicles, and Ford utilizes VW bits for its electric automobile, in an effort to cut advancement and manufacturing costs. Which's why we have a Capri that isn't a Capri.

The Ford Capri will be offered with rear-wheel drive, single motor models or a 4×4, dual-motor variation. The single motor Capri will be readily available with a 52kWh functional battery capability as of 2025, but it's the 77kWh automobile that will arrive first– total with a variety of up to 389 miles. It can likewise handle 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds thanks to the 282bhp electric motor, which is quickly even by the requirements of its rivals.

The dual motor Ford Capri gets a little different battery chemistry and a functional capacity of 79kWh, which is good for 367 miles of WLTP variety. Not bad provided the 335bhp and 0-62mph time of 5.3 seconds.

As for charging speeds, the 79kWh Capri Extended Variety AWD does that faster, too! It gets a peak DC charging rate of 185kW, so you'll get a 10-80% charge in 26 minutes.

The single motor Ford Capri Extended Variety RWD charges at approximately 135kW, which is still great for the very same top-up in under thirty minutes. A 7kW home battery charger will top the Explorer up in around 13 hours.

To help Ford’s WLTP CO2/km fleet average, without the costs of Ford designing their own car. It’s similar to how the VW Amorak is a rebadged Ford Ranger (in that case about having a full model range, as obviously Amaroks and Rangers have very poor CO2/km). 🙂
