      I’m wondering how big a battery they have had to put in it to make it go 500 miles, maybe thats why it’s not very quick with all that power and torque

      That’s rather mean spirited. This channel is far from corporate. It’s a really small team doing honest journalism. I find their content very authentic. This is a product launch not a review so it’s purpose is to run through the publicity talking points and set that against the current market. When they do get to review, I’m sure they’ll do their usual good job of saying what they like and don’t like. Materials, ride quality, usability, design, etc.

      I would usually agréé that no Electric suv can comparé to the g9 bit with 800km range 490hp and a 400kw charging and a Nice interior… There is a game here. Even if thé bmw would be 10k more expensive it can still be considered.

    Less brutally ugly than current BMWs but you still wouldn’t call it pretty. At least it looks like it was styled by a car designer though, rather than the first year design student who seems to have been behind most of their recent models. I could live without the creepy AI nonsense but the rest of the tech is impressive, as is the overall spec.

    I’m going to miss the iDrive controller. That thing is brilliant for switching things up, without ever looking away from the road. I got so used to it that it is muscle memory at this point.

      I will not miss it, for just the menus it’s ok but the navigation system is horrible to control with it. Same for CarPlay, it just feels wrong

      Please don’t say voice commands, since those don’t even work in English speaking countries and have absolutely no chance with foreign sounding street names.

      @@SierraLimaOscar You mean the handwriting? I’ve typed in the whole address on a good touch keyboard while I’m still drawing the third letter. In my 5y old BMW I always setup the route on my phone and then send it to the car.

      I think it’s a generation thing, I also hate voice commands. Boomers prefer to swing the good old pencil, Millennials are masters in typing and GenZ only want to speak to the machines

      ​@@_sabot Again voice commands don’t work if the destination name is not from the same language as the system.
      Of course screen typing is faster, but you can’t do it wihout taking your eyes off the road. I can draw spell the destination on the button slowly but without issues and without looking down (and have done so all over the world).
      The phone thing is cute, but only works in a minority of markets at additional cost (and apparently is becoming a subscription thing?).
      iDrive is a bit clunky at moments but it doesn’t take away the fact, that I have still to see a safer and more universal solution.

    I actually really really like it! Although I’m disappointed about the lack of physical buttons on the steering wheel and knobs for the climate control, I really have to say BMW have done an excellent job with this one.

      It’s form over function. The Germans seem especially dedicated to touch controls and removing real knobs and buttons. I’m using voice controls more in my car, but I don’t like to use them when I have passengers.

    Not for me. I don’t want to fiddle around with screens to change the temperature, nor do I want to talk to my car to do so. Physical controls are the best, so why make things worse?

      I can’t believe BMW is peddling this as new. This is a direct copy of Chinese cars, that wraparound screen inside is straight out of Chinese cars from 2 years ago. It’s good to actually see European manufacturers copying the Chinese manufacturers. 😂😂

    The funny part is companies are going back to buttons due to customer feedback. BMW decides to go Tesla. I like the upper display however. But I hate white interiors. And I’d be wanting the traditional steering wheel.

    Despite what she says in the ad, that steering wheel doesn’t have physical buttons. It does look cool but it doesn’t matter, touch controls on a steering wheel will never, ever be acceptable and I don’t understand what the manufacturers malfunction is, why can they not understand this simple fact. It’s better than a current bmw, but it’s just a lot of cheap screens and for some reason, vehicle manufacturers think they can design software but they screw it up every time. S Koreans are doing it better, Americans are also doing it better even if we don’t get many of the brands in Europe, Germans tho are at Chinese level vehicles yet still charging a premium that hasn’t been justified for years now.

      Touch buttons can be pretty good if you implement them nicely. The home button of the iPhone 7, 8 and so was touch sensitive buttons with haptic feedback and noone noticed it.

    The front end looks GREAT. Having Tom, the 6’ 7” photographer (same height as my son), sit in the driver’s seat proves that the driver has ample room …. I need to have someone bigger than Ginny sit in the back, but the back also looked roomy. My current EV gets 300 miles (except in the winter) ; but to be able to get 500 miles completely ends any range anxiety… even in the winter. My lease ends in May. BMW is now on my consideration list.

    I think some people just needs to find something to criticise no matter how small. Considering what came before design wise this is an improvement.if pricing and reliability is good then this might be my first BMW and EV

      Nobody likes using the touchscreen for high use car functions like music, seat controls, temp controls etc. Having a ton of functions hidden in layers of menus is an ergonomic nightmare(car manufacturers used to care about this). there is one reason why this minimalistic approach is chosen, COST. It reduces the number of parts and lowers the cost of manufacturing, but sacrifices useability.
