State bonjour to the brand-new Citroen ë-C3 – a and truck that could well set a brand-new standard for price in the little sector. It's set to release in the UK next year with a price tag that might be as low as simply ₤ 21,000. Too excellent to be real?

Since October 2023, there are just 5 electrical automobiles on sale in the UK under ₤ 30k and not a single one under ₤ 25 thousand pounds. So that will make this car – Citroen c-C3 – which has been developed– and constructed– in Europe the most budget-friendly electrical vehicle when it goes on sale at the start of 2024. And at a time when numerous and truck makers are stepping back from constructing small since of the difficulty of making them profitable this is a bold relocation from Citroen.

The e-C3 is about the exact same size as the forthcoming Volkswagen ID2 and its general footprint is no bigger than the existing C3. However while the VW does not go on sale up until 2025, you'll just need to wait until the start of 2024 for this vehicle. Which is terrific for restless people like us!

The e-C3 gets an 113bhp motor at the front in addition to a 44kWh battery pack which will benefit 199 miles of WLTP driving range. You can likewise expect larger batteries to sign up with the range, however they won't – naturally – included that affordable ₤ 21k price. You get 100kW DC quickly charging capability, which indicates it obtains from 20 to 80 percent capability in 26 minutes. While basic air conditioning recharging can be done at either 7 or 11kWs.

Wow, design language trickled down very tastefully from Oli onto ë-C3. Sweet.

Given that the BYD Seagull is around £16-17k in Western markets, if it ever arrives, this Citroen e-C3 for a starting price of £21k seems like a better package. Bigger range, bigger space, more powerful motor, more than 2x the maximum charging speed, better interior quality.

The entry level Renault 5 will have very similar specs to this Citreon e-C3, with the option to upgrade a few things in the higher trim models. Europe got some homeruns here and they come to the market next year already. Who would have thought?!

In which Western market is the BYD seagull sold? I am not aware of it being available in any European market, is it available perhaps in Israel (asking as BYD has a large presence there). I cannot imagine it being sold in the Americas.

Well done Citroen, finally a car that’s both affordable and relatively practical that will open up the EV market 👏

Is affordable but you get less per dollar spent. That is the problem with these legacy car makers.
They are using the platform from an indian car, just a different body on top.
But at least they are not as despicable as renault with their dacia spring which is literally a Dongfeng nanobox with slightly different headlights, sold for 3x the retail price in china.

Still be worth 10k in 3 years what’s the point just buy a used nissan leaf or prius for the same and loose less money…

@Robert S.Wilson Wrong, this is designed and built for europe, as mentioned. It is not the same as the indian model.

Great video, hopefully other manufacturers will jump on the same sort out pricing bandwagon 👍 😉

Thank you Citroen… I’ve no time for all the expensive panzer wagons currently on the market. Hopefully real world range wont be too bad

If it finally goes for that price, I am sure it will sell incredeably well

The most important plus here is that they finally also use LFP batteries because they can be constantly charged to 100%. This means you can always use the 44kWh which means it is factually as good as a 51kWh NmC battery (usually used) at 90% and even 0% better than that 51kWh battery (like in 208 or Corsa) at 80%. Not the least LFPs degrade much mich slower and a lot less, which is massive advantage with small batteries like this.

So 44kWh is plenty for practically all cases. And with 100kW charging it is like 2.5C which is also plenty fast enough.

Proves you can do it in Europe when Volkswagen and others blabber about how it is the low labour costs in Asia that make low prices possible. Rubbish.

But the screen above the steering wheel is not a HUD 😂

It may not be a HUD, but it is useful. I agree however with everything else you’ve said

@Peter Rowan I would love to have a HUD as standard in my Model 3 though 🤣

I think at £21,000 Citroën has finally brought something to the marketplace that is really desirable. I have the E-C4 and the space inside totally reasonable but it is a good bit more expensive than this E-C3

Well done Citroen. If you can deliver this under £25k you’ll be a market champion

I’d rather spend £27K and get an MG4 Standard Range.

@Steven Jones they don’t appeal to me, what makes them better than the eC3?

This is going to sell incredibly well if they hit that price point. Great thing is, is it doesn’t look like a ‘cheap’ car, looks fantastic!

at £21,000, it isn’t a cheap car, just less ridiculously expensive than the other entry level EV options

At last! Now we’re starting to get a bit real with EV’s. Well done Citroën (well, Stelantis) for going ahead with this.
Whether it hits the showrooms at this sort of price is, of course, another matter. If it does then Citroën are on to a winner. As a bonus it looks a bit quirky too…just a Citroën should. How refreshing.

Really rather like the design. A bit boxy perhaps, might hurt highway speed efficiency a bit, but it does look good, and the front and rear light design is gorgeous in my opinion, very good use of LED lighting. Been riding a lot in my old dad’s Renault Zoes (he’s had the 2nd gen and now 3rd gen), and small electric cars are so practical and nimble. Not to mention supremely comfortable, with no engine vibrations, no gearbox jerking, quiet cabin, air conditioning, and all that good stuff. More choices in that size range can only be a good thing.

Rather prefer the old chevron design though, not sure why they felt a need to change it. *shrug* But, this is possibly the most useless complaint of them all, so well done Citroen – I wish them tremendous success. Would have hoped the same for Volvo’s small(ish) new car whatsitscalled, but it is so damn expensive in comparison… 😛

A big nail in the coffin for ICE cars, well done Citroen. I wonder if the comfort suspension will be available on this. Recently hired a C3 aircross as loved the ride and handling.

A massive thumbs up to Citroen! Not only is it affordable, but it seems to have reasonable battery technology, looks better than many of their other models and keeps some quality at that price. It’s good to see a European manufacturer giving consumer what they’ve been asking for for a long while.

Great review, and good to see that LFP batteries are starting to be used in euro EVs too now

Good to see Citroën are getting serious about EVs. Becoming more affordable now, although still some way to go. The petrol version of this is €17k in Holland, so €23k (assuming conversion from gbp 21k) is quite a premium. Still, well done and now build them in great numbers.
