You've heard of the Renault Scenic, right? It was something of a home name through the nineties and noughties, having been an incredible success as a budget-friendly and remarkably utilitarian, if rather dull MPV. Then the family crossover-SUV occurred, and the MPV died off– so much so that the Scenic was stopped altogether in the UK by 2019. Now it's back and– you guessed it– it's morphed into an elegant crossover-SUV that's out to fall the popular , Skoda Enyaq iV and Nissan Qashqai.

The Renault Beautiful E-Tech only gets one powertrain, which features a 215bhp electric motor on the front wheels, and a 91kWh lithium-ion battery with an 87kWh usable capability to power it.

This brings an official WLTP variety of up to 379 miles, which is seriously outstanding and is usefully better than you'll get from the Skoda Enyaq iV, VW ID.4, e- and even the a lot more expensive Tesla Design Y. A smaller battery Picturesque is used in mainland Europe, however it's not likely to come to the UK.

Charging speeds are great on the Beautiful, too, with a peak 150kW charging rate being on a par with or better than a number of those rivals, although the Tesla Design Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 will charge at over 200kW. When plugged into an effective adequate quick charger, the Scenic can draw up sufficient electrical power for a 20-80% charge in around 25 minutes. A 7kW home battery charger will handle a complete charge from almost empty in some 13 hours.

Sign up with Nicola as she puts the new Renault Beautiful E-Tech through its speeds for the first time. Has Renault built a winner? Is it on your shortlist? Let us know in the comments below.

NICE, thanks for the good review. Good looking EV and we love Renault.
We hope Renault is going to build an EV with 2 doors.
2 doors and 2 seats, is less weight is more range and less money.

Renault are on a real roll at the moment. Compare the rear access and legroom of the Scenic to a Peugeot 3008, STELLANTIS need to get their act together.

Prices are still a bit steep – but much more realistic than pretty much all Stellantix brands… Should sell well.

You could get 2 x Dacia Spring instead. Buuut…. 🤔

This is again a UK-specific price. In our market the big battery version starts at under £37k( at current exchange rate).

Thanks. Looks like a well-priced, stylish EV for families who can afford the monthly payments. It’s a good deal, lighter than the Peugeot e3008. Only advantage for the Peugeot may be interior style and quality. Deals may level out the price difference a bit? A Model Y carries a lot more stuff.

I think that was the best back-seat review I have ever seen!! 👍 Cool car! Will there be a 4WD version?

I never thought I’d say this, but that Scenic is stunning. And looks like a great car…

Elements of the Kia EV6 from the side…. Renault seem to be hitting the spot with EV’s just now. Witness the new R5…. Some clever design work with the rear armrest in this car…..

The bigger battery is a boost for people who cannot charge at home. Less worrying and less time going for a charge.

My first car was a Golf Mk. 2 back in 1994. There were not many things I hated about it. But one thing was the design of the boot. 30 years later and some smart folks at Renault thought „Let‘s have a boot design that nobody has ever liked because its usability is near zero and sell it as being big!“

    1. @flo_h_96 Avatar
      @flo_h_96

I really don’t get how so many people aren’t clever enough to understand such a simple concept. Renault doesn’t only advertise the boot as big, it also is big in reality. There is a reason why this car has a way bigger boot than cars with the same size and a bigger or as big boot than cars which are longer. I mean yes, it isn’t the most practical design, but if you don’t need the space you still can use the false floor. But if you want to carry something big, like furniture or something you still have the ability to put the false floor away and use the space, which in other cars, especially rear wheel drive you simply can’t bc there is no space underneath the floor or way less. And yes rear wheel drive cars therefore have a frunk, which is nice for the charging cables, but as I already mentioned, if you want to carry some furniture or something else which is big and you just can’t get it in, in a car with less space in the boot, the frunk if the car has one, will not help you at all, unless you cut of a peace of your furniture or disassemble it. Also most german cars although being rear wheel drive don’t have a frunk and just waste the space in the front and other front wheel drive cars which obviously won’t have a frunk but should have more space in the back just waste the space in the back. So only people who don’t get it complain about the boot of the Renault Scenic E-Tech and as well about the Megane E-Tech which has the same design!

Having driven a van for my work nearly 40 years with solid back doors I’ve come to rely only on door mirrors so I wouldn’t be bothered by the camera setting for the rear view mirror plus the fact you have no visuals on the back seats when carrying your little bundles ( horrors 😂) of joy in that mode.
