Mercedes is revolutionising its compact 'coupe-like saloon' – the CLA – by using it in totally electrical guise for the first time. Set to handle rivals like the Polestar 2, Tesla Model 3, BMW i4 and BYD Seal, the new, electric Mercedes CLA isn't keeping back on the requirements.

Base variations of the electrical Merc CLA will include rear-wheel drive and one motor, integrated with a smaller sized 58kWh battery, with higher specification designs acquiring a 4Matic 4×4 with a decoupling front motor, a bigger silicon carbide chemistry 85kWh battery pack. A two-speed transmission, 800 Volt technology, smart brake regeneration, a multi-source heatpump and up to 320kW DC charging power is technology stemmed from Mercedes-Benz's record-breaking Vision EQXX principle car. And, best of all, it includes an incredible driving series of up to 480 miles!
