Is the Citroën ë-C5 Aircross simply another electric SUV … or has Citroën really broke the code with something a bit various?

Nicki Shields takes the ë-C5 Aircross out for a spin to discover whether it's more than simply a stylish body on a familiar formula. She'll be digging into the convenience, variety, charging, tech, and daily practicality to see if it can stick out in a market that's currently packed with electrical crossovers.

Does the ë-C5 Aircross bring that hallmark Citroën quirkiness and comfort magic, or will it have a hard time to shine against rivals like the Kia Niro EV and Hyundai Kona Electric? And, most significantly, is it an automobile you 'd actually want to deal with every day?

Stick around to see if Citroën has constructed a winner … or just another SUV.

    Hopefully this will be the last Citroen with piano black interiors. Apart from that, this looks like a nice car, especially if they get the grant.

    The frequently used word (yes/bit/not) ‘SPORTY’ when reviewing a SUV is … to put it mildly … strange. Name me a D-segment family-oriented SUV that’s destined to be a trackcar. And don’t suggest X5 M’s. OT: Convincing packages, both the Cit and ‘you know what I mean’

    Piano black should never be near something that fingers may touch. Yes, I include pianos in that.

    It looks like a proper effort from Citroen, well done. The only negative is the NMC battery from LG (ouch, how many fire risk recalls they had?), I would prefer LFP.

    1. @BeLowBelowo Avatar
      @BeLowBelowo

      LG in the past burned itself by rolling out batteries rated to accept up to 4.4V of full charge per cell but really an overvoltage to look like they have the most competitive product, and the GM Chevrolet Bolts and the reputation of LG and EVs in general suffered

    It’s a shame. As soon as Citroen pulled out of Australia, they started making cool cars again. This and the DS8 both seem great.

    So one of the biggest distinguishing features of the Citroen C5 Aircross’ gone before were the 3 full seats (with isofix) in the back yet not taken forward to the E C5 Aicross?! Missed opportunity me thinks and surprised Nicky didn’t mention this considering she’s normally very family oriented!

    1. @patriotbarrow Avatar
      @patriotbarrow

      Indeed! I also thought that the C5 Aircross’ party piece was its 3 individual rear seats. A shame they got rid of them.

    If I get past the fact I do not really like Citroens, this is a good example of a Citroen which is well executed at a good price. For this size of SUV I would really want 4WD and the bigger battery looks like overkill.

    Reminds me when I got my 2025 Ioniq 5 Limited this summer. My wife was like: “Why would you get ventilated seats?” Of course, that was the first feature she loved in June and July.

    To be fair to Stellantis, I Leased an E-C4… Great comfortable family car that cost just £20/mth to charge! Only negative was it was a tiny bit small for our needs.
    I would definitely go for an E-C5.
    Another plus, is Stellantis cars are cheap as chips once they are 2 or 3 years old….

      @samuelparr6847

      So it’s not electric, but the Dacia Jogger is definitely reasonably priced, albeit a budget car. I agree though, I’d like to see Citroen get back to seven seats and replace the C4 space tourer which was popular.

    I really like this! My brother has the eC4 and it’s a really nice drive, well equipped and often hits the actual suggested range. This looks better in all areas, smart design, good range, high specs and I really like the interior too, even don’t mind the piano black in this one, it kinda of suits it. I hope people aren’t badge snobs and really give this one a try, I think they would be surprised and really like it, prefering it to more expensive models.
