Read the BYD evaluation:

If there's one automobile that has actually come to define the electrical vehicle transformation, it has to be the . Millions have actually been offered because its introduction, making it the very popular electrical and truck worldwide. So you might be questioning why nobody has thought about doing the exact same. Why aren't our roadways full of sleek, slippery saloons with performance that none of its rivals come close to matching?

Finally, that circumstance could be ready to change. 6 years after the Design 3 showed up, BYD is set to release what appears to be a deserving option. The belongs to BYD's Ocean series of electric automobiles and UK employers are preparing to bring the very first batch in before completion of the year. The 's arrival will bookend what will be a remarkable assault on the UK vehicle market from BYD. From no existence whatsoever at the start of 2023, BYD plans to have three designs (Atto 3, Dolphin and Seal) in UK showrooms.

The Seal will be used in the UK in two versions – rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive– badged Design and Excellence. The rear-drive version includes 308bhp while the all-wheel drive variation provides 523bhp. Which is a lot. The rear-drive variation can go from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds, while the four-wheel drive one does the very same in 3.9 seconds. The AWD design's straight line velocity feels every bit as quick as those figures recommend.

Both variations feature an 82.5 kWh battery as basic which uses cobalt-free LFP chemistry and BYD's blade style that positions all the cells into thin 'blades' that allow for a greater density of energy. The Seal also includes what BYD calls Cell to Body building and construction. That's an elegant way of saying that the battery is utilized as part of the structure of the and truck rather than simply being bolted in.

Hmm interesting! I have no problem with the brand especially since they removed the ridiculous BYO spelt out across the back. Looks good, don’t mind the interior (always disliked the Tesla minimalistic interior) – would hate the low speed whine… 😡 Needs to be priced lower but definitely a consideration.

It is prettier than the new and old Model 3 especially at the front.

    Hi……love the channel.
You made a strong point about “taking a chance” with an unknown brand against a similarly priced Ioniq6………the AWD Hyundai in top spec (which would be a spec match for the AWD Seal) will cost approx €15k more than the BYD Seal here in Ireland……so yes…..I would absolutely……..take a chance on the BYD.

    Dfference to the i4 eDrive 40…….about €20k
Difference to the Dual Motor LR Tesla Model 3………about €7k

In Ireland, I think it is going to roll out of the showrooms on its own!!!!

(there is also 2 choices for the annoying low speed whine…….maybe the other one isn’t as bad)

@Nick Beardshall I realise that…….I think she was referring to the UK market.

@Nick Beardshallthey’re also partners with Mercedes Benz or at least were….as was Tesla.

@John Birks The importer bringing them into Ireland 🇮🇪 is the Mercedes Benz importer.

@Keith Young biggest UK showroom has AMG, Mercedes-Benz, Smart and BYD on the side of the building. You’d think that would be clue enough for reviewers..😂

I am actually quite sad, that the additional advantages of a LFP battery in terms of environmental impact, fire safety or longevity are not mentioned for one of the only 80+kwh lfp battery cars. There are not a lot of those cars out there atm.

And in my opinion, it is not to understimate as a advantage, especially in the long run.

The tesla model 3 highland has an LFP battery in the standard range.

@Keith Young not in China. Model 3’s manufactured in Giga Shanghai are equipped with CATL batteries.

@Fred Frond I must be mistaken so. I thought the 2WD basic model had BYD batteries.

I sat in the Seal at the Bangkok motor show this year. I found it quite a snug fit compared to my current SUV. The black interior looks much more sophisticated.

It’s good to see they’ve dropped the silly BUILD YOUR DREAMS logo plastered along the back. That alone would put me off. European buyers don’t care for silly logos on our cars….. The biggest problem BYD – and similar brands from China – will have, is the “unknown” factor, and no established dealer network. I wonder why they use sea-life names? Will the next model be the BYD Sea Lion?

You can change the sound of the low speed pedestrian warning, in Brazil at least, there are 4 different sounds that can be played as the warning

The model 3 raises the bar so high, it’s tough for others to make an impression. Still, this BYD does give the industry some variety.
Can’t wait to see the vid of the updated Model 3 😉👍🏻

Looks good, although I personally have always found hatchbacks much more practical than saloons. A bit pricey as well, although at least you still get indicator stalks and a drive selector.

Unsure yet about the specs/price of the to be revealed 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance Highland but judging by the improvements made to the Tesla Model 3 long range the Seal will need to come in at a much lower price point than the Performance model price to be considered.

Both BYD and Tesla are poised for ongoing success, irrespective of individual preferences. Ultimately, the market will determine their fate. BYD excels in China, South Asia, and Latin America, consistently introducing innovative models and even outperforming Tesla sales recently. In contrast, Europe tells a different story. Tesla, with just four models in seven years, has built a dedicated following and a common presence on European roads.

Tesla’s edge in Europe stems from its exceptional efficiency and minimalist design, perfectly suiting European tastes, ensuring continued dominance in the European market.

The only thing most people might have known about Tesla 11 or 12 years ago was that roadster that TG sent up in flames, and until the last 5 years Hyundai and Kia weren’t seen as anything above budget brands. 2 or 3 years and BYD will be well known. I’m sure a lot of (electric) bus drivers will be familiar with BYD! Only disappointment with this is the subpar efficiency, but given the rate of BYDs progress with vehicles maybe they err on the side of robustness and hopefully the facelift of this gets better motors still

Yes it is a bit of a gimmick but I do think that the rotating screen is something a lot of car manufacturers will be doing in the long run because it is practical and is a lot better than forcing users to use one screen orientation or the other.

I find myself very concerned about vehicles that use batteries as part of the structure. I don’t know how this BYD does it, but there are already significant issues with right to repair vehicles that you purchase. Now, if you get a vehicle on a lease, then you really don’t own it. And in theory, the manufacture is taking responsibility for all warranty repairs. So in that case, I’m not sure if right repair would really apply. But if you buy a car outright, whether on a loan or not. You ought to be able to have options with regards to repairing them. The way that the batteries in this vehicle are described, it seems unlikely that it would be easy to either swap out several cells, or repair a wire that has come loose that causes the vehicle to have reduced or no function. Perhaps electrifying can do a story about this at some point.
