    Slate’s idea is really cool and all the addons and items available hit right home with many customers. Unfortunately, the price target has proven to be quite fluid already and as you implied cautiously, Slate might be fully dependent on tariffs by the time they _finally_ have available product. It stands no chance against Chinese EVs.

      Totally agree, the much larger D to E segment sized Changan Deepal multi pick-up-SUV truck E07 starts at 21,500USD and has a massive touchscreen and is super comfy, Electric Viking recently called it the most comfortable vehicle he has ever driven

      Exactly. If and when the Slate is actually produced, it will likely be competing with the compact Ford EV truck which is currently in development, and other vehicles from established OEMs that will offer better features and range at comparable pricing.

      Slate has an `interesting price model`… want wheels? pay extra. Will want to see prices from UK dealers for ALL addons real soon or that baseline price is just typical Bezos…

      I guess if the target is the US, Chinese EV’s won’t be the competition as they’ll be tariffed out of the market.

      @simonevans8979exactly, and prices for the additional equipment and accessories has not been revealed. They could easily double the “entry level” price

      Dimwits running slate should rework it to say least well equipped under 30k ev! Or to say stale saturn inspired decades old design instead!

      @OM61777they have so much more to think about, like how they have been completely outclassed by everyone and more precisely the Chinese.

      I am for this competitive poking but Tesla did one thing well – they started with very expensive models, scaled, released cheaper models, reduced price for same models as supply increased. Tesla did basic textbook economics of scaling and reducing price for consumers and it worked. Slate is starting with affordable which is a risk as it doesn’t let a lot of room for scale over the years.

    Telo has a small truck, too; that’s a 5-seater. Next year, we’ll see who makes the best small truck for budget-minded Americans. Ford, Slate, and Telo.

    2. @richpate9436 Avatar
      @richpate9436

      @martyy4073 Yes, but unfortunately the Telo will probably be the most expensive. I have both the Telo and the Slate on pre-order.

    3. @mactysonkarate Avatar
      @mactysonkarate

      Telo isn’t an budget or affordable truck. It will just be well priced in the 40K+ Range. That’s assuming they even make it to market since they have a much more difficult path forward than Slate unfortunately.

    4. @concinnus Avatar
      @concinnus

      @mactysonkarate The average new US truck is $60k now, so starting in the 40s is basically affordable. Slate’s aiming for budget truck (lower category), against only the Maverick.

    5. @mactysonkarate Avatar
      @mactysonkarate

      @c@concinnuswell same point though is I’m saying they aren’t really competitors outside of both being compact EV pickup trucks smaller than the Maverick

    honestly, i love that the panels are plastic. i could just leave em in the basic grey and let my kids go to town on it. my slate will be the most individual slate there is. lol 🙂

      They are also easily replaceable. So even though they are dent resistant if you do need to replace them you can easily order the specific panel you need and replace it yourself. Or cheaper service for that same reason since they don’t need to remove the whole left side of the vehicle (slight exaggeration) to replace one part of it like with many modern vehicles.

    Yes there are people out there that properly use the 1000kg loading of a full size pick up but let’s be honest 90% of tradies fill thier trucks with tools/equipment and have supplies delivered to site. I cant wait for this to get approval and backing to be brought to the UK. I would also like to add that the reason why people like it is because….its diffrent. Its not just another £50k+ ev pick up with all the same fancy bollocks that no one uses.

    The $20k price was after the $7500 rebate. Also that was with parts from China before tariffs took effect. The real price once production starts in 2027 will be $30k.
