Drumroll please … 's new child electric SUV is the very best electrical vehicle on sale in the UK, is our 2024 Cars and truck of the Year. As well as getting the total, the pocket-sized EX30 likewise gathered the Little Household Electric Automobile honour. Affordable and useful, we reckon it is also excellent to drive even at the cheaper end of the variety.

Another small SUV took the Urban Electric Vehicle of the Year reward, with the Jeep Avenger being a surprise option as the brand name is best understood for bigger 4x4s. We like the brand-new Jeep's compact dimensions, manoeuvrability, performance and chunky appearances and it's a welcome new addition to the marketplace.

At the other end of the SUV scale, Kia's new flagship, the EV9, was called the Big Electric Family Car of the Year. The seven seater has the quality and innovation to truly fret the prestige brands.

The was granted the Money Saving Electric Car award. It's an excellent household hatchback which is cheaper to purchase and run than equivalent gas competitors, with a fantastic warranty and plenty of equipment too.

A newbie to the UK, BYD scooped an award for its ingenious Blade Battery fitted to its Dolphin and Seal designs. Its clever style promises to bring greater security and sturdiness than standard electric cars and truck power packs. For example, the rigorous tests carried out by the business consist of driving a big nail through the middle of the battery's cells to inspect they'll stay steady in severe scenarios.

The awards were judged by 's crack group of experts, including Buckley, Tom Barnard, Mike Askew, Nicki Shields and Nicola Hume.

Thanks for all your work this year, great video. I think that MG4 will get a run for its money from the new Citroën ë-C3 in a month or so.
Around the same overall specs, but over €5.000 cheaper.

Here in New Zealand recently purchased an MG4 price less a govt £3,500 rebate (now ditched by new right wing govt) the 2023 51kw LFP battery with reversing camaras, opd, rear wiper cost £19,300 incl orc. A Bargain, the Ora Cat has just reduced price and comes in at £18K.

Wish more of these models were available on this side of the pond. Looking for my next EV, and the pickings are rather slim here. Tsk.

I think you left some alternatives off the table for decision making such as in the luxury or ultra-luxury categories. I think the Mercedes Benz EQE350+ and EQS are superb EVs…

MG4 ? Na….some owners reporting very buggy infotainment and dealers not interested in fixing them, creaky dashboards too

“Some owners” yeah that’s clearly a reason…Or maybe they’re just making alot of noise? And “Dealers not interested…” None of which actually detract from the general POV.
You do realise that not everybody lives in your septic isle, don’t you?
I could equally point to owners of “Premium brands” who have had truly terrible experiences (but most won’t admit it because they hate being rich and having been sold a pup – and the real difference is that they, wait for it, keep buying the cr`p because it is good for their image!).
The habitual takeaway from your comment is the same as always… either choose you car by the dealer, or choose your dealer by the car. It is a rare event indeed when you get a great car from a great dealer. And that is true the world over.

Surely, with how small the EX30 is, it can’t be considered as a small family car. If there was just a small car category, then it would probably win that. A small family car needs a good-sized boot and a decent leg room in the back.

Good line up of cars there. Well done. I am tempted by the volvo EX30 but the lack of physical buttons puts me off a bit. Plus the SUV styling, just too many of them.
