Dacia Hipster First Look: the tiny EV that could change everything

LEARNT MORE:

Sign up with Ginny as she takes you on an unique walkaround of the remarkable Dacia Hipster Idea– the tiny, square electrical car that's in some way handled to take the show. But is this ultra-lightweight, ultra-simple EV the future we actually need … or has Dacia gone a step too far?
In this video, Ginny checks out why the Hipster intends to develop a whole brand-new category of electric lorries for Europe, sitting somewhere in between eccentric quadricycles like the Citroën Ami and the ever-growing, ever-heavier electric SUVs. She dives into the smart design details, the ultra-efficient philosophy behind it, and the huge concern: could this be the inexpensive EV development we've all been waiting for?
Or will it run straight into a brick wall of policies and customer expectations?
From its Starkle plastic panels to its hammock seats, BYOD infotainment, and genius boot design, Ginny shows you every concealed technique the Hipster has up its small sleeves.

This and the Honda super one are the coolest little EV’s.

That would also be nice to see in the UK.

@jonevansauthorThe Honda is coming to the UK. Not sure about the Dacia.

This makes the Super One look out of date.

@nexpro6985Nah, both have their own appeal. I like the Bulldog (the car model, not the dog) retro vibes of the Honda. But I also like the Star wars vibe of the Dacia. So it would depend on which car has the better boost mode. Or sliding back seat.

I swear, I could almost hear James May say “…good news…. the Dacia Hipster……”, and Clarkson (completely ignoring him), say “…right the new Ferrari F something or the other” 🙂

right! because Clarkson lives in a world of his own. In my world, of many, this car would be perfect.

This looks super cute. It reminds me of my first car: A Suzuki LJ 80.

It’s cute. The colors are nice. It smacks me of a cross between a golf cart and a Slate vehicle. Understandably some of those concept items won’t make it to production in their current form but it’s interesting to see where the manufacturer is giving winks and nods to to get our attention.

Yes! They should do a 4 wheel drive version. Bring off-roading to the masses.

Okay – the graphcis with the gold line and the 300 cm, and the flipping in the original mini and the Fiat 500 were absolutely perfect. Please do this with every future comparison because people are always using some obscure car that only car addicts know instead of using the obvious ones like a real Mini, a Fiat 500, Fiesta and Escort. People uses bananas for scale, but no-one use herrings for a reason. 🙂

I really hope they make the Hipster, after coming up with a name that isn’t for a category of eminently punchable people I wouldn’t allow to sit in it. They can feel free to cut back any styling that isn’t purely functional though – if there’s more to cut, slice that off. 🙂

I would be so much into buying one, if they really will build it soon. I look for a nice, small getaround for the city and to take the kids to the child care. This would be the perfect fit!

How is the mesh on the front seat allowed and safe though. it would not be for a final car since having a crash people in the back could go and cause more damage to the person in front

you know what they need to do is make that phone cradle extendable so you could stand a tablet there and you could link tablet to your phone hotspot and use google maps etc on a bigger screen

Looks great, but not sure about fabric door handles here in the UK, where ir rains 80% of the time. They would rot away after about 2 years, and can you imagine them frozen stiff on an frosty morning 😂

Fabric door handles: Interesting diversion from the normal haptic interface. Are they actually a woven plant fabric or plastic strands woven to form a fabric-like material? Fascinating design and engineering choice either way.
