    Gotta be honest. I don’t hate the way this looks. I guess a design language initially dreamt up for 3-box saloons works best when re-imagined for 3 box saloons

      WHAT was wrong with buttons? We’ve been using them for 140 years in cars. That’s a lot of years. You’ve been copying yourself BMW – from generation to generation – for several decades – starting from E28 or E34 5 series, over to E38 7 series – my F11 five series – has very similar buttons. And I LIKE THAT. I can use them. I know where they are. Even not looking at them. Full climate control. Drive modes (mostly Eco/Sport acceleration when needed immediately). Stereo volume. WHAT WAS WRONG with them – what was wrong with finding them – without EVER taking your eyes off the road? What? Can anyone explain? BMW? You should know that, BMW – seeing you’re located on the doorstep of fastest roads of Europe where you drive 180 metres in three seconds (do you want to spend these three seconds fumbling with a moron screen?) The only thing here is I think customers (like me) trying to explain something to BMW. Hey, BMW – you’ve been doing buttons for decades. You have also been doing many of your design cannons – for many, many generations and decades – you know the ones I talk about. It’s not only Hoffmeister’s kink (by the way your five series Touring didn’t have it). You know which design standards I talk about. The distance from front wheel to hood. The line from rear to front lights through door handles. The overall taught, muscular shape. Lines that make sense. Like E39. You remember the last time you dropped them all? Yeah. You invited the designer boy Bangle to design your E60/61 and E65. AND THEN IMMEDIATELY – even during the immediate face-lift for the 7series – you went back to classic. Remember that? Why was that I wonder? Then you designed two still very good looking five series which were not Bangled. The F10 and G30 were classy, sporty, not bloated and not spitting onto your own design cannons, like the E60 was. So you went back to your roots – with the F10 and G30 – whole two generations of good design – after the moronity that was E60 (both interior and exterior). Why, I wonder? Something to do with a massive backlash and sales volumes? Hope it’s not the case for you with buttons BMW – looking at the number of people VAG and Mercedes are currently fireing because of sales decreases – I’m really hoping you know what you’re doing with the entire “buttonless” crap. I don’t think you are. I think you’re blindly following some stupid trend that’s on the market for some reason or other (ukhem, Elon Musk). By the way, BMW – as you clearly know – sales figures of electric vehicles are declining. Sales figures of cars which f_ing identify as appliances are declining. But you still insist on being “trendy”. Well, let’s see where it all takes you. I just hope my F11 from 2012 drives forever. Just bought a massive pile of parts for it.

    Damn! 559 miles WLTP!

    My Model 3 has a 344 miles claimed WLTP range, but has averaged a real-world range of 260 miles over 20k miles and almost two years – so about 75% of the claimed range.

    Apply that to this BMW and you likely have a real-world range of at least 422 miles.

      Not for me, I’ve never cared much about the range, more about the charging infrastructure. Where are the chargers and how long does it take?

      When there’s a bank of super chargers at every major gas station that can take my EV from 20% to 95% in less than 10 minutes, then I’ll consider them. Anything less is not something I care to deal with.

      @SliderFury1 why would that matter if the car can take you farther on a single charge than most people would be willing to drive in a day? I agree the charging infrastructure is critical to long-term success, and will lead to us being able to use far smaller batteries eventually if we can rely on there being places to charge at our destinations, but at 500 miles there’s really no need.

      Going the other way is what we need now. Smaller lighter battery packs with efficient drivetrain. I imagine this in ‘40’ trim with a circa 400 mile range will be the sweet spot.

      For me it means I can charge at home using my off peak charging rate, drive from Merseyside to Hemel Hempstead to visit my mother, then drive all the way home without needing to recharge at a ridiculously overpriced motorway charger.
