      It depends. IF the price stays the same, the updates are big enough. IF the price increases, they can keep it. It’s basically the same car with new LED and a slightly bigger screen. The chinese clone without the Volvo badge costs probably half the price.

      This is a facelift, not a redesign. There’s a slightly larger EX50 coming next year. That will be the redesign. Meanwhile, we have a lot of new content in the facelift, which is still fundamentally a good car. If you choose to criticize, fine. Are you planning on buying a new car in the next year? There’s lots of choice if this doesn’t fit your needs. I own an XC40 Recharge, and I like what I see, so good work, Volvo.

      Volvo should call this a mild facelift. I will keep my 26 model for the next 5 to 6 years because other than the bigger screen that basically runs on the same Android Google system with Gemini assistant that’s in my 26 model now, there is no difference in the interior whatsoever. The updates on the exterior look nice but I don’t think that’s enough. They could have added a heads Up display and added some driving modes like sport and eco etc other than just the normal and off-road which I have in my car. And they still seem to think that everyone still wants that shiny black plastic centre console which I do not like whatsoever because it looks cheap and nasty which I need to clean most days🤬😂.

    I have had the XC40 P8 and the EX40 and will wait for the EX50 which is on the way.
    Only real change is a slightly bigger screen

      At the time, they did it to keep the price competitive. Now since the car is old enough to generate volume and profit for the company, they were able to make these technological changes without breaking the bank. The mild-hybrid XC60 and XC90 will get another update before 2030 and every new model will either be a plug-in hybrid or an EV. Volvo is not investing in redesigned mild-hybrids.

    Other than Core trim , they all attract the higher rate of VED since the price increase.
    Very unfortunate , both for customers, and retailers.

      looks like the unfinished clay model they use. completely destroyed and eliminated the curves that made this the best looking small suv out there.

    It is a push to call this new. Same car architecture, same shape, same engine, same size boot, same interiors effectively. Totally just a face lift.

      Exactly, because I own a 26 B4 plus pro model and the interior is basically the same other than an upgraded bigger screen and the Google Android system is the same as my 26 model obviously the screen is bigger but now I’ve got Gemini assistant like this refreshed model. Ok there’s some exterior differences which look good but as you say not a new model.

    Delighted with my facelifted XC60 – it oozes luxury and quality which BMW and Audi seem to of lost their way with. These changes for the XC40 are overdue.

    Seriously?! A new tablet and redesigned headlights – is that it?!
    The previous generation had some obvious issues that really needed fixing: the rear seatbacks don’t recline, the wireless charging pad is awkwardly positioned and weak – hopefully they’ve at least made it more powerful this time – and that metal corner by the rear door window just needs to go. Please, just make it like the XC60.
    Do Volvo actually listen to their customers?! 😢

    Unfortunately, Volvo did not address the model’s biggest problems: the rear seat cushion is too low and has too little angle at the front to provide proper support for the thighs; the rear seat backrest is too upright; and the unattractive vertical line of the rear door windows reduces outward visibility and makes the interior feel darker, while also making the C-pillar look visually heavier and compromising the car’s overall appearance.

    Get rid of the touch screen controls..THEY ARE NOT SAFE. Thatcham have even started docking safety points for this.

    Thanks Volvo you didn’t mess with simply great SUV, the XC40 was one of the best in it’s class and now they nicely polished it, exterior is still beautiful and the interior got just enough updates especially infotainment vise to be competitive.
    Would just love to see more updates to the EX40 EV platform.

    I wish the ultra trim would match that of the XC60, at least with bowers and Wilkins audio. I struggled to see why you wouldn’t get a <2 year old XC60 for the same price as a new xc40

    I’ve had the current model for 10 months – XC40 B3. I really like it, but I won’t be upgrading to the latest model – ever. I like the exterior changes. But honestly, that new central display just looks like it’s been stuck on top of the old one with doubled sided tape. It’s beyond me how they didn’t bother to either integrate it into the dash or amend the dash so that the air vents wrap better around it. It simply looks like a cheap after-market stick-on job. I would be embarrassed to have passengers in the car with me.

    Apparently these cars are only a stop-gap until the XC50 arrives in early 2028. Something reviewers of these cars have pointedly ignored. Why? An NDA perhaps?

    would you not consider the Range Rover Evoque as a rival to the XC40 You only mention the Audi Q3 , the BMW X1 and the Mercedes GLA as the XC40 rivals
