Hello all. We have recently had installed an Andersen A2 EV charger with an 8.5m tethered cable. We don’t have EVs yet but wanted to be ready, when we do. We got the longer cable (5.5m is the standard length) so that we can charge either in our garage or on our driveway in front of the garage. My question is will I need to unwind the cable fully or is it safe to only unwind what amount of cable I need when charging? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.

I have a different charger but I only uncoil what I need to charge. Used it that way for over a year.

I use long loops so only have two loops on a 25 foot cable. I almost never pull off the second loop.

3p/mile charge for EV’s isn’t being introduced next year. It’s planned for 2028 (and it might be abandoned or pushed back as has happened in Australia)

It was a sad week last week as I had to let my company ID Buzz cargo go as I was moving to a new company. Really disappointed with the new van, a smelly old diesel 😱😱. So, I had to cheer myself up so I bought a Mercedes EQC 400 premium plus, what a lovely car, not very efficient but I don’t care 🤣🤣

You discussed the pros and cons of a bigger battery. I keep my cars for 12 to 15 years. To me the biggest benifit of a large battery is a useful range after the battery has 10 years of driving logged. An Ioniq-5 with 20% degradation will still go 220 miles. Which is fine for local driving.

The VW ID. Polo GTI appeals to me but so does the Cupra Raval. Impossible to make a comparison, until UK specs, colours, options and prices known. I agree with Tom that guide prices look a bit high but hopefully both EVs will qualify for the ECG. Not sure that the better value choice might be the larger, longer range, rwd ID. 3 Neo or Cupra Born. I looked at the Alpine A290 but it is very cramped in the back – I’m 6’2” – and from reports I have read the real world range is rather disappointing and actually very poor in cold conditions. I do though suspect the Alpine might be more fun to drive.

I stand by my comment about the CATL battery with 900+ miles of range that you pooh poohed! Even your own website says, I quote “The battery is also extremely energy dense, meaning that you get more range per kilogram of battery. For a bit of context, if you tried to get this kind of range out of an LFP battery, you’d be looking at a battery pack that weighs some 400kg more than CATL’s new Qilin compressed battery – which is estimated to be around 170kWh. It’s light enough that it may even make it into electric aeroplanes.” So I wouldn’t be dragging round a load of extra weight! I’m still looking forward to these batteries being available. Still love the podcast by the way! 😉😉

Can your editor trim the long pauses between the hosts hearing the question and replying, its breaks the conversational tone. Thanks!

For heaven’s sake guys. This is a video channel … as in visual, but you churn out audio regarding cars ad nuaseam . The Pingpong I.D. 20 EV17 alphabet alphabet alphabet. When you got to the unloved Lexus I had literally had enough … but THEN you showed a PICTURE. WHY don’t you just flash up thumbnails? I literally feel excluded from your chats due to the disconnect. Is it REALLY to difficult to show the cars? It wouldn’t bother me if I knew them already …. sometimes it’s nice to be reminded. You both want and exclude new audiences.
