Taking the Genesis GV70 to the BEST road in Wales !

450 miles and 10 hours of driving in 2 days is the ideal method to evaluate the most recent Genesis GV70. With smooth exterior lines and one of the best interiors I have actually seen the all electric GV70 is an impressive bundle.

Thanks for the review. Nice to see you up on Epynt. Keep sending people to the Black Mountain road so they can enjoy the views and the 40mph average speed camera zone (though all the cameras “blew down in the wind” lately) and we locals can enjoy the other amazing roads in Wales! Good to see that the chargers on the m4 are improving but mid Wales is still a charging desert.

Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru has the largest number of chargers, both fast and rapid, in mid Wales. We’re not nearly as bad as gogledd Cymru up around Caernarvon.

@@pethearbennig72 Yep. Aber is the exception but too far west – inland is still a nightmare – there needs to be a/multiple proper charging hub(s) in Welshpool/Rhayader/Newtown/Llandridnod/Builth/Brecon etc.

Great review Pete love that part of the country like you say the views are fantastic, what a great looking car I no it’s a eV with that kind of range it is easy to live with .

People talk & focus about cost of DC charging. Most will charge at home @ 7p a kWh. So it all balances out over the long term. PP not need of Zap Map etc. Just use in built car navigation. It will do it all for you.

at 3.2 miles per kilowatt home charging works out at 2.18 pence per mile.

I drive that road pretty much weekly as I’m pretty local, it is a great road but I use it as the gateway to the better roads, the quieter, more technical, more challenging roads that are nearby

Ah yes, I’m sure there are some amazing roads near there!

Because of one of your previous videos, I drove the Black Mountain Road on my last road trip in the UK in 2023. It is a wonderful piece of road, but driving it in a rather basic rental car doesn’t do it justice. I wish I had one of my Minis with me, but tourists can’t bring their own cars. I second your recommendation that anyone in the UK who likes to drive should drive this road.

Why didn’t you stop and charge at Tesla chargers? 84p/kWh is an utter waste of money.

Thinking aloud, if we get legislated out of ICE cards, I wonder if saloon / estates will come back as they do have a lot better efficiency due to their CD rating and being lower to the floor, in respect to the SUV / more blunt shaped vehicle format….good review, the Korean manufacturers are building some really good cars generally. Well built, reasonably priced (relative to 2025 anyway).

Having owned 5 different BEVs in 9 years, plus always a back up old ICE car….. 10,000 miles per year costs us about £35/mth…. We only use public chargers around ten times per year. In recent years we use Tesla chargers for our Mercedes, because they the cheapest. Range is never an issue… The longest single journey is around 250 miles one way.

Question :- How is this a SUV? My thoughts on SUV are of a car like the Jimny or the Original Range Rover,.or a Rag Top L/Rover… Sports Utility Vehicle. To me this car is a rather nice SALOON car. Where am I going wrong?

I use the same pub in Wales to fill up my LEAF on the way home from Porthmadog , a useful stop off. You are right about improvements in the charging structure, have a look at the Zap-Map stats pages to see how things have moved on.
With regards to the test car, did you notice there were no annoying noises from the exhaust pipe, no bangs and pops on deceleration, nothing to annoy the horses, just power as and when you wanted it. In all an enjoyable driving experience.

German EV owner here. People really don’t understand public charging. If you go to an out of network charger you are going to pay more. Just like with a company fuel card.

We have a Model Y, 20% to 80% takes round about 25 to 30 mins. Cost is again round about 20 euros with our charging card.

And for the tuna melts going on long journeys and waiting. I recently drove from Heidelberg to Thurso and back. 2361 miles. Total charge cost 329 euros.

Normal car, 5 tanks of fuel roughly, 500 miles to tank. You can do the maths there. Sure your 2L TDI sitting at 50 in the middle lane can do it 2 tanks. Bla bla. Why do that?

I spent most of the autobahn sections about 160 kph and speed limit in the rest of the roads.

Of the 40 or so hours of actual driving there and back over a week’s time it worked out about 14 hours of charging. Any normal journey you’d be stopping a similar about of time.

Might I add, I am from Scotland

You can & should arrive at chargers lower than 20%. That’s a lot of range ‘lost’ for no reason.

I try to get to them between 5-10% and always hit peak charging speeds very quickly.

Great video again. A great road even better on a bike.

Nice interior but that lack of rear legroom was a surprise in such a big car. The Ioniq 5 has way more room.

Fab video. I live in the area and regularly cycle the Black Mountain road. You mention a speed limit! Actually the authority have erected solar panel powered average speed cameras Mounted on purpose built posts. You will not have seen these as local vigilantes cut the posts downwind angle grinders.
Drivers be aware. They may just put them back up.
