New Q5: has Audi RUINED its best-selling car?

Change your vehicle with Carwow:

This is the all-new Audi Q5!

The Q5 is among Audi's essential automobiles. In 2024 it was its very popular cars and truck, with more than 300,000 systems being shipped! The concern is, is it an enhancement over the previous design? We have actually got our hands on the SQ5 edition, so let's take a more detailed look …

When it pertains to the design, the Q5 still looks actually wise. Compared to the previous cars and truck, it has a wider grille, thinner headlights, and an upgraded bumper that now houses all of the autonomous driving tech. The imprints on the bonnet for this SQ5 edition also give it a bit more meaning on the road. There are brand-new alloy designs to pick from, and around the back, you'll find a full-length light bar. Being the SQ5 edition, it features quad tailpipes, and they're 100% real exhausts – no fakery here!

As expected, the Q5 is actually wise on the inside. Diving throughout the dashboard is a large infotainment/digital dial screen, and the UI is actually quick and responsive. The digital dials can be customised to the chauffeur's taste, and the car we have here even has a second screen for the front guest! Sadly, unlike the previous car, there are practically no physical buttons left, and the private buttons on the steering wheel have actually likewise been gotten rid of. Sports seats come as standard, and the majority of the cabin is covered in soft-touch products.

The Q5's engine variety begins with a 2-litre turbo fuel & 2-litre turbo diesel. Both of these engines deliver 204hp, and they both include a mild-hybrid system. The SQ5 is geared up with a 3-litre turbo V6, and this delivers 367hp. It likewise has a mild-hybrid system, and all alternatives come equipped with Quattro four-wheel drive.

The entry-level Q5 Sport starts at ₤ 52,310, with the rate increasing all the way to ₤ 75,525 for the top-of-the-range SQ5! So should you pick it over a BMW X3 or Mercedes GLC? Stick with Mat to see on your own!

again audi keeps putting lacklustre interiors in their cars with many screens and barely any physical buttons and the horrible buttons on the steering wheel plus material quality in the interior could be better

Bring back physical buttons on the steering wheel, use more real buttons inside, skip the piano black trim, and restore the classic Audi badge—then it’s nearly spot-on.

I wouldn’t expect cheap “ Kinder egg” plastic , on ANY car ! Least of all, a Q2, costing north of £40,000!
      On a £52,000 Q5, it’s unforgivable.

5:40 this does work using CarPlay and Apple Maps – a full map, not just directions, is displayed on the right hand side of the driver’s display.

8:23 the electrical locking mechanism is there so the door doesn’t open in case a car or a cyclist behind would drive into it.

I don’t believe they are cost cutting on buttons in a car in this segment, I think that is too simplistic. It looks more modern, it is not so good to use.

I don’t trust a manufacturer that took a tried and true door opening mechanism and replaced it with an electric one that works worse, is less reliable, is more expensive, is more complicated, increases my risk of accidents, and gives me absolutely nothing. Audi, if you couldn’t even do this, which you’ve done many times on previous generations of cars, how can I trust you on other, more complex technical things?
I wrote this with sadness because you were my favorite brand of cars before. But not anymore. I will not deal with stupid people because I do not trust them.

    2. @raoulne Avatar
      @raoulne

It is a safety feature. The car will detect upcoming objects from behind and prohibit the opening of the door if you want to exit the vehicle. You still have a mechanical backup that unlatches the door if you pull the handle all the way.

But yeah the electric doorlocks broke a lot on the C8 A6 for example. Time will tell how the new ones hold up.

@@martinsvensson6884 I literally said in my comment, that it also has a mechanical backup for emergencys. It will work like any other lock in a car if you pull the handle all the way.
