New BMW M2 review with 0-60mph & auto vs manual!

This is the brand new 2!

Mat's headed over to America to get his hands on this brand new sports coupe, and he's about to find out if it's a deserving follower to the previous M2, and whether it can compete with the similarity the Porsche Cayman and even the M3!

Well when it comes to the design, it's had a major overhaul over the routine 2 Series. It's got a big squared kidney grille in advance, bulging wheel arches over the side, a carbon fibre roof and quad tailpipes at the back. All-in-all, it's certainly meaner and more aggressive than the routine 2 Series.

It's a comparable story on the within, with a number of modifications made over the basic automobile. As you 'd expect there's a smattering of M tricolour to be discovered throughout, a fair little bit of carbon fibre, and M-specific digital dial graphics. It likewise features sport container seats.

Then let's have a look under the bonnet! It includes the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as discovered in the M3, but the output has actually been called down somewhat, so it'll produce 460hp and 550Nm of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheels just, and unlike the M3, you can pick the M2 up as either a handbook or an automated!

The price starts from around ₤ 65,000, however is it really worth it? There's just one method to find out – stick to Mat for this all-new evaluation!

It’s hard to fathom how they’ve gone from one of their best looking designs ever to something that just looks deformed and odd

@Vittorio Bencivenga stoo talking drivel. BMWs are known In the UK as a one lap wonder the only ones I see still being used in UK at any track is the old compact and e46. Just quit talking tripe pal they are rock bottom of reliability charts and b58 is now hovering at the top of the engine failure rate charts just like N47. You are fooling nobody we know none of the German cars can take a beating so quit it pal.

I think I prefer the previous less boxy shape too. The front thankfully doesn’t have BMW’s new snarling oversized grills but they still look a bit thick. Still a great car though

I’ve seen it in the flesh parked up at Brands Hatch. You do see better, and appreciate more in my case, the swollen boxy arches. A throwback to the original E30 M3. That’s not a bad thing.
Can’t help but think the missing front grille is as if someone on the production line took a smoke break and missed it off

I still find it funny that everyone complains about BMWs Grilles (even smaller ones like on the M2) and all of them forget that AUDI used to have normal sized Grilles, and when they switched to their gigantic Grilles over 10 Years ago, People also complained and called every Audi released with that Grille from then on “ugly, this will age badly” etc.
Now look at Audi, nobody complaining about the Grilles anymore and People got used to it or like their Looks.
Lexus Grilles are probably the biggest and worst ones and People stopped complaining about them as well.
So People will also stop complaining about BMW Grilles, especially since they’re much much smaller than Audi and Lexus

Are those Bumpers not the ones US Cars have to have because of some weird Law in the US? I guess they’re not on it here in Europe.
What i learned about BMW the past 20 Years is that everyone complains about their Designs whenever a new one comes out and then say the previous one looked better.
Then People get used to it and then when the next one comes out they wil cal the one they used to call ugly before “Much better looking” etc.
I think BMW gets so much Hate for Designs because they’re the only Car Manufacturer who does actually change the Looks of their Cars the most from Generation to Generation.
Audi in Comparison, doesn’t. So People dont have to get used to new Looks.
As much as i dislike a lot of BMWs when theyre released, i’m aware that in a Year or two i’ll either end up gotten used to it or liking it.

The looks are growing on me. Kind of reminds me of the previous Gen Civic Type R—a bit over the top, but clearly meant to stand out from your average Civic. No one is going to confuse this M2 with a regular 2 Series. I would like a little more contrast with CF mirrors and spoiler to go with the CF roof. All in all, a nice little budget M3.
