Maserati Ghibli Trofeo review: a 200mph BMW M5 Killer!?

This is the !

It's rival to high-performance saloons such as the BMW M5 Competitors & , and Mat's ready to discover if you should pick the Italian over a German!

Well for beginners, let's take a peek under the bonnet, and the very first thing you'll observe is that the engine's red. The factor it's red is due to the fact that it's based on the engine that is used to power the Ferrari Portofino and Ferrari Roma! The power output might be down a little compared to the Ferrari, but it's still adept! It's a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 580hp and 730Nm of torque. When it comes to power, claims it can propel the Ghibli Trofeo to 60mph in just 4.3 seconds. So it's pretty outstanding, although it's still a complete 2nd slower than the

When it concerns the design, the Ghibli Trofeo looks quite similar to the regular , although there are a couple of subtle changes. In advance, you'll find vents in the bonnet and a carbon fiber splitter, and along the side, there are optional 21-inch wheels and red inlets added to the side air vents. Around the back, it's all quite similar to the standard car, apart from the addition of a carbon fiber rear diffuser.

Take an action inside, and the design of the interior seems somewhat middle of the road. If anything, it's maybe a bit outdated. The good news is however, there are a few aspects we're actually pleased with. There's a brand new contemporary infotainment system in the centre of the dash, and there are also a pair of sports seats for the driver and front guest. There's also the option to choose a carbon fibre pack which adds carbon to the centre console, door trims and paddle shifters!

So it's a seriously smart automobile, however as a result, it then features a quite serious price – ₤ 121,745! So do you think it's worth it? Or would your money be much better spent on a German rival? Let us know in the comments!

Mat has such a way with words. This guy can go from reviewing boring SUVs to talking in great detail about the quirks of an Italian sports car and keep me entertained and interested with both. Incredible!

That was my feeling with my Alfa Giulia. I never even bothered to look up the 0-60. It was more than quick enough and it felt amazing on the road. It’s a feeling I’ve definitely not gotten from the other European cars I’ve had

    1. Sportbike Jesus Avatar
      Sportbike Jesus

Almost everyone who still cares is driving the fastest car they’ve ever owned. So those cars feel fast to them. Just like everyone feels fast at their first trackday while being woefully off the pace. Personally I like to break the illusion and learn the truth.

    2. Mathew Jones Avatar

      Mathew Jones

@Tey Fsb Then specifically singled out other cars from Europe as lacking. I’m simply interested to know where the cars originate which he’s found do feel amazing on the road given most European cars I’ve driven are far better on the road than their Japanese counterparts and when it comes to handling you can usually dismiss most american cars because they are far more fascinated by going fast in a straight line.

Just disable all the safety features on any german RWD car. You will experience the same. Germans build more safety into the car which makes it more ‘tame.’

Better than the competitors! Is true isn’t fast as german one’s but the quality of building and how great the luxury and sportivity are connected together i think is the best looking car from outside and driving it!

I like how they compare every sedan to m5 , titles go as far as “m5 killer” cuz they know the m5 is just the best option out there

    1. Mars Allen Avatar
      Mars Allen

Best option in terms if what? Luxury? No thats mercedes S and GT series. Performance? Ehhh i guess maybe by half a car length on the E63s but thats stock for stock. Depends on who you ask and their opinions

    2. Emily Spencer Avatar
      Emily Spencer

@Mars Allen last time I checked the M5 interior doesn’t go crEEEEEEK on every panel I touch, unlike the presious E63, ouch. (I am merc fan btw)

    3. Hotline Bling Avatar
      Hotline Bling

@Mars Allen In terms of performance, the best petrol sedan on the planet is the M5 cS and it’s not even close. It smokes any stock mercedes sedan. in terms of luxury obviously you can’t compare a s class with a 5 series.
But BMW build quality is known to be superior overall.

    4. Mars Allen Avatar
      Mars Allen

@Emily Spencer what are you talking about? My 2017 E63s doesnt creek and its well built lol. You sound like someone whos never been in an E63s and only watches reviews from bmw fans

    5. Mars Allen Avatar
      Mars Allen

@Hotline Bling who said bmw has better quality overrall? A bmw fan boy or bmw fan boy article? Mercedes has better Luxury quality than BMW while BMW has performance. Everyone knows that.

That was a very insightful and fair review, Matt. I have owned 6 Maseratis, including the first edition Ghibli. They are just what you concluded, you can get better for your money but the Maserati has that ‘fun’ factor that makes them great to drive and sound glorious, putting a big smile on you face. 😊
