Ken Block Hoonitron v Audi Quattro Rally Car: DRAG RACE

Mat's lining up in the unbelievable Audi S1 Hoonitron, and is about to go head-to-head with the renowned 1985 Audi S1 Quattro Group B rally car!

So let's see how these 3 incredible Audis stack up. Starting with the S1 Hoonitron, it's a vehicle you would usually anticipate to see smashing out doughnuts rather than running in a straight line!

Nevertheless, it still packs a magnificent punch, with its 2 electrical motors delivering 680hp and 640Nm of torque. What's more, regardless of packing a 50kWh battery, it's still relatively light, weighing in at 1,620 kg.

Then we have the infamous Audi Group B rally car. It's got a 2.1-litre 5 cylinder turbo producing 500hp & 480Nm. It might be down on power but it's a fair bit lighter than the Hoonitron, tipping the scales at simply 1,090 kg.

      Hoonitron also has 360kph top speed and 240bhp more than the Toyota GR010 Hybrid 2021.

    This illustrates how irrelevant ‘peak power’ (the stats quoted) is compared to the area under the torque curve to determine a car’s true acceleration potential.

    The Quattro loses boost every gear change, so it makes a lot less than 550hp until it hits peak power.

      Also, one speed does not negate how cool shifting gears looks in an oldschool car.

      ​@Heli0s_0nesince exhaust goes through the Turbo and the sound waves gets distorted, therefore many turbo does not sound as good as an NA engine. Turbo cars usually has a bit lower max RPM. The Quattro sounds amazing though.

    Actually the Hoonitron has a gear ratio of 12:1, therefore resulting in around 3000 Nm of torque per axle = 6000 Nm in total!

      Correct. 6000NM is what I heard too. I don’t understand why carwow says it has under 700NM.
      That’s the second time carwow uses that car and comes with the wrong statement about the cars torque.

      @B Athey quote engine torque. Like always. It’s the industry standard. And it’s correct.
      “Each MGU develops 250 kW of power and 320 Nm of torque. This results in a total output of 500 kW and 640 Nm of torque.” according to the Audi Media Center

      torque at the wheel alone doesn’t mean much unless we can see the complete torque and HP curves. Even a Nissan Leaf can produce >2.000Nm. Wheel torque.

      With Matt and Yianni driving this will result in a mid-runway collision or both cars careening off into the grass with summersaults. (or both)
      So yeah… It should definitely be a regular feature.

    I had really so much fun enjoying watching this drag race, especially that Quattro Rally car, it’s such a masterpiece of a machine and I seriously wouldn’t mind seeing Mat bring it again in the drag racing videos!

    Wow! He absolutely nailed that 360!! Don’t even think I saw any over rotation. As soon as that nose came around, he was ready and kept that thing straight down the runway! Impressive!
